DETROIT — General Motors is recalling 843 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra crew-cab pickup trucks in the U.S. to replace the passenger airbag, the automaker said on Friday.

The defective airbag might not fully inflate in a crash, GM said.

"Very few vehicles have been sold to customers and GM is calling each of them to arrange for repairs," wrote Alan Adler, a GM spokesman, in an e-mailed message to Edmunds.

GM said there are no known crashes or injuries linked to the recall.

"Less than 1 percent of the affected airbags in the recall may have this condition," Adler said. "Affected vehicles at dealerships will be repaired before being delivered to customers."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S., has not posted any information about the Silverado and Sierra recall on its Web site.

Owners can contact GM at 1-866-694-6546.

Edmunds says: GM appears to have gotten out ahead of this recall, so owners should expect to be contacted directly and given further instructions.
