DETROIT — General Motors is recalling 21,721 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks to fix a seatback flaw, the automaker said in response to a query from Edmunds on Wednesday.

The trucks have manual front seat reclining seatbacks that might fail to meet a federal safety requirement for dynamic performance if struck from behind, the automaker said. The recall will begin on October 21.

GM said it is aware of no crashes or injuries related to the recall.

"Very few have been sold," said Alan Adler, a GM spokesman, in a phone conversation. "Most are in dealer stock."

The recall involves 18,972 trucks in the U.S., 2,575 trucks in Canada, 103 in Mexico and 71 elsewhere.

Dealers will inspect the seatbacks and make adjustments if necessary under the new-vehicle warranty. Owners can contact GM at 1-866-694-6546.

No information about this second Silverado recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA is not posting current recall information as a result of the government shutdown.

Edmunds says: General Motors notified its dealers of the latest Silverado/Sierra recall on October 2, so they will be ready to deal with the fix in short order.

I always wonder who the supplier of the bad products are because I know most parts are not made by the Auto companies.

Ahh the perils of a redesign. I wonder how they became aware of the issue?
