DETROIT — A camouflaged 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Test Prototype is being offered as a free vehicle download in the PlayStation 3 racing game Gran Turismo 5 starting today, as General Motors continues to find creative ways to drum up interest in the Corvette ahead of its unveiling on January 13.

This is the first time Chevrolet has worked with a video game company to offer a "drive experience" in an early development car, even before the car has been revealed, GM said.

The 2014 Corvette will also be teased in a second video on the consumer Web site 1-13 on Thursday.

GM issued four official images of the camo Corvette C7 Test Prototype, which provide a rather detailed look at the highly anticipated car. The Corvette is bundled up in black camouflage, complete with Velcro straps, but its shape and silhouette leave little to the imagination.

"During the creation of the virtual Corvette prototype, careful attention was paid to the tiniest details, from the creases and wrinkles in the soft camouflage used to disguise the new design to specific driving characteristics that are currently being tuned and refined ahead of the vehicle's official debut in January," said GM in a statement.

The prototype is immediately available for download through the PlayStation Store. It can be driven on some of the world's most famous tracks, including the Nürburgring.

Edmunds says: GM gets a lot of credit for a clever blending of the world of automotive spy photography and video games as it strives to promote the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette.
