DETROIT — Chevy took the wraps off of its 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Sunday night at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and today gamers are able to get behind the wheel of the car in the video game simulator Gran Turismo 5.
Over 500,000 gamers have driven the C7 Corvette since November, when a camouflaged version was released in the game. Now that the car has officially been unveiled, the fully uncovered version will be available as a free download through the PlayStation Store starting today. All six previous generations of the Chevrolet Corvette are also drivable in the Gran Turismo series.
General Motors says that specific attention was given to making the virtual 2014 Chevrolet Corvette experience as real as possible thanks to reproducing details like the shift schedule of the sports car's seven-speed Tremec TR6070 manual transmission.
The 2014 Corvette features a direct-injected, 6.2-liter LT1 pushrod V8 power plant that produces an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both a six-speed automatic and a seven-speed Tremec TR6070 gearbox are offered, and, although pricing has not been announced, the base Stingray version should be priced competitively with the $54,000 Ford Shelby GT500.
Edmunds says: Take this opportunity to get behind the wheel of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette virtually, because you may not see it in dealerships until the third quarter of this year.
