WASHINGTON The 2014 Cadillac SRX luxury crossover earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2014 SRX received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test. The ratings apply to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the SRX.

The 2014 SRX received "good" ratings in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, including a "good" rating in the moderate overlap front crash test. The forces in that test are similar to those that would result from a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight, each going just under 40 mph.

Standard safety equipment in the 2014 SRX includes six airbags, antilock brakes, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert and electronic stability control with traction control. Optional safety equipment includes lane-departure warning, a rear vision camera and a Safety Alert seat that sends vibrations to the bottom of the driver's seat to warn of crash threats while driving and parking.

The Cadillac SRX competes with the BMW X3, Lexus RX 350 and Lincoln MKX.

Edmunds says: Some important safety advice for car shoppers to consider as they weigh their options in the luxury crossover segment.
