TORRANCE, California — Acura is recalling 652 2014 Acura MDX trailer hitch kits because of a defect, the company said on Monday.

"The accessory wire harness was incorrectly assembled during production and it may not properly power a trailer's accessory brake controller when installed using provided instructions, potentially increasing stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash when towing a trailer equipped with an independent braking system," said Acura in a statement.

Approximately 340 of the Acura Genuine Accessory trailer hitch kits may have been installed on cars sold here.

No crashes or injuries have been linked to the recall, the company said.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

The recall is expected to begin in mid-August. Owners can contact Acura at (800) 382-2238. Once the recall starts, owners can also determine if their vehicles require repair by going to Acura's recall Web site.

Edmunds says: If you notice a problem, you'll want to get your 2014 Acura MDX into the dealership before the recall officially begins.
