TOYOTA CITY, Japan — The redesigned 2013 Toyota Crown Royal and Crown Athlete launched in Japan only on Wednesday.
The front end of the premium sedan is based on the shape of a crown.
The 2013 Crown series ranges in price from the U.S. equivalent of $41,362 for the Crown Royal to $63,626 for the Crown Athlete G.
Rear-wheel-drive versions of the Crown get a new hybrid system that combines a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with a high-torque electric motor. The Crown can also be ordered with a 2.5-liter V6 engine or 3.5-liter V6 engine.
The original Crown debuted in 1955; this is the 14th generation of the car.
