AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Chrysler is recalling approximately 9,300 2013 Ram 1500 pickups because of a parking brake problem, the automaker said on Tuesday.

"A routine internal audit of 2013 Ram 1500 pickups discovered a small number of vehicles whose parking brakes did not comply with mandated performance standards," said Chrysler in a statement posted on its Web site.

Chrysler said it has had six field reports alleging insufficient parking brake function.

Dealers will inspect the parking brakes and reset them according to specification. Chrysler said more than half of the affected trucks are in dealers' hands. It did not set a date for the recall. The affected trucks were built between December 17, 2012 and January 22, 2013.

Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Information about the recall has not yet been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Edmunds says: Chrysler says owners of the 2013 Ram 1500 will be contacted directly in this recall.
