  • The recall is expected to begin on June 17.

DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling 500 2013 Lincoln MKZs equipped with engine block heaters because exposed wiring could increase the risk of electric shock and corrosion, the automaker said.

"While we do not have any reports of the issue occurring in the field, our data indicates the potential for it to occur and we want to remedy the issue for our customers," wrote Kelli Felker, a Ford spokeswoman, in response to an Edmunds query.

Ford says the insulation on the engine block heater electrical cord has the potential to crack in temperatures of minus-4 or colder.

"Exposed wiring increases the risk for electrical shock and corrosion," Felker wrote.

Ford says 107 of the affected vehicles are in the U.S., while 393 are in Canada. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had not posted any information about the recall as of Monday morning.

Ford dealers will replace the engine block heater cord.

The recall is expected to begin on June 17. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Edmunds says: A small, yet important recall.
