AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Chrysler is recalling 5,663 2013 Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 and Ram 1500 vehicles because their automatic transmission components could fracture in some circumstances, according to the automaker.

The affected vehicles are equipped with a "specific set of features and equipment," including 4x4 or all-wheel drive, an eight-speed transmission and a V6 engine, Chrysler said.

"Output shafts installed in some 2013 vehicles were shaped using a two-stage forging method employed during early production," said Chrysler in a statement. "The resulting components may be subject to fracture in rare circumstances.

"The process has been replaced by a single-stage forging method."

Chrysler said it is unaware of any injuries or accidents linked to the recall.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Chrysler dealers will inspect and test the transmission output shafts and replace the transmission assemblies, if necessary.

Chrysler did not set a specific date for the recall. Owners can call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Edmunds says: Chrysler said owners will be notified when to schedule service appointments with their dealers. But if you have trouble in the meantime, get your vehicle into the dealership immediately.
