TORRANCE, California The 2013-'14 Honda CR-Z hatchback gets the option of a new dealer-installed Honda Performance Development supercharger kit, the automaker announced on Thursday.

The kit is priced at $5,495, not including dealer installation. It is only available on manual transmission models.

Honda notes that it is "priced similarly to popular aftermarket supercharger kits but is engineered and backed by Honda."

The addition of the accessory kit boosts powertrain output to 197 horsepower compared to 130 hp for the 2013-'14 CR-Z with a manual transmission.

The kit includes an HPD air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors and an HPD air filter system.

The kit maintains the balance of the customer's limited powertrain warranty when installed by a Honda dealer.

The street-performance accessories for the CR-Z debuted at the 2013 SEMA Show, an aftermarket show for enthusiasts.

Key rivals to the CR-Z include the Hyundai Veloster, Scion tC and Volkswagen Beetle.

Edmunds says: Your local Honda dealer can help you kick it up a notch if you own a 2013-'14 CR-Z.

You can do your own mods with better results for that cost, but the fact that this kit maintains the manufacturer warranty is pretty good. This car may finally be worth owning now.

CR-Z EX $21,840 + HPD kit $5,495 + Dealer Install $? = over $27,335 Seriously who in the world would be stupid enough to go that route? There are other fun cars to drive out there (GTI, BRZ/FR-S, WRX...) for less or as much. Not to mention the CR-Z sports a torsion beam in the back! Unless Honda brings the European Civic TypeR, in the us they lost me...

  • This is one of those cases where, if anyone asked me about it, I'd say: "Look, if you want a faster car, sell this and go buy a faster car". With 197HP you aren't going to be Top Gun anyway.
