WASHINGTON — Honda is recalling 157 2012 Honda Civics because they may be equipped with an incorrect steering column assembly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The steering columns of a small number of 2012 Civics were assembled with a tilt bracket designed for a 2013 Honda Civic steering column assembly.

"The steering column may not have proper energy-absorbing characteristics, which could increase the risk of injury during a vehicle crash," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem.

Honda said it has not received any claims related to the recall.

The affected Civics were built from October 26, 2012 through October 30, 2012.

Honda dealers will replace the steering column in the affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin on December 4. Owners can contact Honda at (800) 999-1009.

Edmunds says: It's a small but significant recall. If you own one of the aforementioned 2012 Honda Civics, you'll want to get this problem addressed promptly.
