WASHINGTON — McLaren Automotive is recalling 376 2012-'14 MP4-12C Spider and Coupe vehicles to fix non-functioning wipers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall only affects cars originally sold or currently registered in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. The cars were built from October 10, 2011 through October 23, 2013.

"Due to a combination of high ambient temperatures and humidity, the wiper motor brushes may jam, causing the wiper motor to stop working," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Non-functioning wipers during inclement weather may reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash."

McLaren Automotive told federal safety regulators it has received nine reports of wiper-motor failures in the U.S., including eight in Miami and one in Tampa.

McLaren dealers will replace the wiper motors. The recall has begun. Owners can contact McLaren at 1-646-429-8916.

Edmunds says: If you own one of the aforementioned MP4-12Cs, you'll want to get the car into your dealership ASAP.
