HERNDON, Virginia — Volkswagen of America is recalling approximately 150,201 2012-'13 Volkswagen Passat ┬ásedans because a low-beam headlight bulb could lose electrical contact, leading to reduced visibility, the automaker said on Friday.

"It is possible that, in instances where the hood is closed roughly (or dropped from a certain height), the resulting vibration and/or impact can cause a low-beam headlight bulb to lose electrical contact," said Volkswagen in a statement on its Web site. "If this happens, a warning in the instrument cluster will immediately alert the driver. Failing illumination of the low-beam bulb may lead to reduced visibility of the vehicle."

There have been no crashes or injuries linked to the recall, according to Volkswagen.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Volkswagen dealers will install an improved bulb fitting. Additionally, the hood bumpers will be inspected and, if necessary, adjusted or replaced to prevent the hood from contacting the headlight assembly if the hood is dropped during closing.

A specific date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Volkswagen at 1-800-893-5298.

Edmunds says: Volkswagen said it plans to notify owners of the affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with their local dealer. But if you have a problem with the car in the meantime, get it into the dealership immediately.
