WASHINGTON — Mitsubishi is recalling 10,474 2008-'13 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution cars because the clutch master cylinder can fail, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"Failure of the clutch master cylinder reduces the ability to shift the vehicle into or out of gear, increasing the risk of a crash," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem.

The recall affects vehicles with a manual transmission. The cars were built from December 12, 2007 through March 5, 2013.

"We are unaware of any injuries and/or accidents related to this issue," responded Roger Yasukawa, Mitsubishi spokesman, on Monday when asked if there were any injuries, fatalities or crashes linked to the recall.

Mitsubishi dealers will replace the affected clutch master cylinders. The recall is expected to begin on November 11. Owners can contact Mitsubishi at 1-888-648-7820.

Edmunds says: This recall begins in fairly short order, but if you own one of these cars and are experiencing a problem, get it into your dealership immediately.
