STS-V would be interesting and rare, but the rest...meh. It seems to have been about 3/4 finished, good for 2005, hard to justify still being sold mostly untouched in 2010. XTS looks pretty cool. Caddy needs to build this image, not only an image of harsh angles for the sake of hard angles, and blingy SUVs beloved by wannabe gangstas, trophy wives, and old men. "They tested the "machine", not the on-board electronics." Yeah and thank the Lord, NOT THE DESIGNS!! How refreshing to read a comparo about the performance of the vehicles! The thing they really didn't like was the Beemer's active steering. Thankfully, I didn't order mine with this option. A milder objection was the 3-blinking lane changing stalk. I went deep into the bowels of iDrive (wearing my decontamination suit, of course) and ... Read More

Discussion of anecdotal evidence is apropos. I've leased 3 Cadillac STSs in a row(1999, 2002, and now 2005). Cadillac doesn't have a stellar reliability reputation, but I've never had one in for anything other than routine maintenance and once when some idiot rear-ended me at a stoplight. I too leaned toward a 2005 M35x or A6 for my current car. My experience with Minneapolis Infiniti dealers was so terrible that I ... Read More

I also read that toyota/lexus has lost a decent chunk of their horsepower ratings too for their various engines. one e.g that pops to mind is the camry was downgraded from 210 to 190 hp on their 3.0 V6. Of course actual hp has NOT changed; merely the way it is measured, nevertheless: Check out the article linked below from The Detroit News. The article claims that the new test standard ... My particular vehicle was assembled in mid October, and delivered end of November, 2004. It is plagued with two anomalies. One, unprovoked, the car evidences three problems at once: Radar cruise not ready/service brake assist/service stability system. The ... Read More

I had planned to seriously consider the new STS based on the early press releases -- only Cadillac's bundling of options turned me off of this idea. I have rented several 2005 CTS's and found them, too, to be very competent and possibly players in the LPS category, or at least the near LPS category. I would think the CTS well optioned would be a contender if you were not dead ... Read More

As far as I can find, the only thing we know for sure is that the 1SG (premium luxury performance) package has the 3.42:1 axle. This axle ratio give 30 MPH per 1000 RPMs. So at 75 the engine will run at 2500 RPMs with torque converter locked up. The 2.73:1 would reduce this to 2000 RPMs but the base/luxury V8s have 17 inch wheels, so probably 2000 would be around ... Read More
