The STS, as it is, is too small for my tastes, looks too much like the lesser CTS, and is more expensive than the DTS if one desires a V-8. I purchased the DTS instead. Whenever I had my 2002 Cadillac Seville STS in for extended service, my dealer usually gave me a Cadillac loaner. I once had a new 2005 CTS for an entire weekend and I took it to Macungie. I usually got a DeVille. Heck, I wouldn't mind it if they gave me an XLR or Escalade just for once.

but already GM has a recall on the new CTS with the rear end leaking. including the 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS and STS sedans, I believe the recall is on the old CTS, not the new. FYI, GM had lower recalls than Toyota and all the other major OEM's last year even though they had the highest volume of sales.

But lately we have noticed that some of the GM cars are looking pretty impressive, namely the Cadillac CTS, Chevy Malibu, GMC Acadia, Saturn Vue, Saturn Outlook, Saturn Aura, Buick Enclave. Also some of the Fords look good, like the Ford Edge, Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan. You need to read the original post again, the average buyer age data is from 2005 (the most recent that I can found) but the IS and CTS owner age breakdowns are for 2008 model. what do numbers from 2005 have to do with the 2008 CTS which has been on sale since August? If you read some of the consumer reviews on Edmunds you will see that many of the people who have commented cross-shopped and/or owned import luxury brands. Found it, the STS sold 1,573 for October 2006, a 10 percent drop from Oct 2005. Source A little off topic, but GM really does give a lot of information on their corporate site. I didn't know the Corvette sold as well as it does, they're on track to sell like 36K of them this year! Not sure what is going on with Saab, but their sales were up 98 percent(!) ... Read More

The Audi system works well, in fact it works very well. But, it is woefully inadequate. You can say "navigation" and then "navigate to _____________ (name tag.)" You can also tell it to show you "everywhere" you have ever been and anything you have stored in the address book. In the US, BMW's 5 outsells Audi's A6 by about 3 to 1. Ohio's largest BMW dealer which may not translate nationally, claims 40% of the 5's sold are X-drive models and now some 15% of the 3's (and growing) are likewise. I "assumed" the STS's I mentioned (AWD) were V8's. Until 2005, there were 3 Audi models in the A6 lineup (not including the Avants): 3.0, 2.7T & 4.2. The 3.0 normally aspirated V6 coupled with a lackluster tiptronic auto only transmission was, I presume, meant to go head to head with the lowest powered US 5 model of the day. We need an "Emotorcon" that signifies sarcasm. While I am of the opinion that the BMW and the Cadillac were both stock, the differences seem to boil down to the fact that the STS we were offered had the optional (but I would imagine fully stock componentry) sport suspension, tires and wheels -- and as I conjectured, inflated to the max. I also read that toyota/lexus has lost a decent chunk of their horsepower ratings too for their various engines. one e.g that pops to mind is the camry was downgraded from 210 to 190 hp on their 3.0 V6. Those sales numbers are very interesting. There is a lot of talk about the CLS taking E-Class sales on the German car boards eleswhere. Between the CLS and the fact that every other car in the class is newer the E will have a long hard year. In 2004 MB moved 58K Es, I doubt they'll hit 40K this year. Ouch. As far as I can find, the only thing we know for sure is that the 1SG (premium luxury performance) package has the 3.42:1 axle. This axle ratio give 30 MPH per 1000 RPMs. So at 75 the engine will run at 2500 RPMs with torque converter locked up. The 2.73:1 would reduce this to 2000 RPMs but the base/luxury V8s have 17 inch wheels, so probably 2000 would be around ... Read More

You guys have gotten my "juices" going about this 2005 STS. Finally "rear wheel drive", "AWD", etc., some of the things that should have been coming out of Cadillac years ago. My problem is that we currently own a 2001 STS, and of 8 previous Cadillacs, it stands alone in the multiple problem category. Certainly not a vehicle to own out of warranty. Anyone interested in the upcoming Cadillac STS which replaces the Seville? I doubt Cadillac will make it an ultra luxury sedan as the current one is mid-level, but I hope they do since they already have the mid-level Deville. I can't wait till Edmunds has some pictures.
