Grand Dad's Caddy
Vehicle
1990 Cadillac Seville 4 Dr STD Sedan
Review
Seville was definitely THE car for my 94 year old grandfather when he bought it 9 years before he passed on at 103. This car is a bargain. In fact this car is a sleeper. Buy it for a song and sing all the way to the bank. And, it also holds its own at the country club and fancy restaurants. Very dignified. But otherwise, a big step up from buying a new XYZ for much more money. The "mature" drivers put only a very few gentle miles on these babies.
Favorite Features
This car has a decent record for repair incidence, has a luxurious ride, is surprisingly good on gas, and has more than enough zip in the FWD V8 to hold its own on the freeways. For winter use, I fitted Michelin Arctic Alpin snows and it trucks far better than those spin-out SUV's.
Suggested Improvements
Downsides? Well the brakes aren't the strongest. Some trim items needed replacement and, not unusual, the cruise control stopped.
The 1990 STS
Vehicle
1990 Cadillac Seville 4 Dr STS Sedan
Review
The 1990 STS continues Cadillac's commitment to excellence. Yet it departs from the "old-fogie" connotation of the Cadillac name. It has a spacious and comfortable interior, along with a sporty design on the outside. It drives very smoothly, and handles well. My car just turned 170,000 miles, and is still running strong. This is testament to the value of preventative maintnance, and the quality in manufacturing of Cadillac and GM automobiles.
Favorite Features
The on-board computer quickly notifies the driver of a problem, and nags him to fix it (very effective). It saves time by computing the average mpg ratio automatically, and sensing the life of the engine's oil, among numerous other things.
Suggested Improvements
The only real complaint I have about this car is the gas mileage. The pre-Northstar era engine guzzles gas in the city, and only accepts premium grade fuel. This becomes expensive very quickly.
