Cadillac DTS auto lights problem

  • Re: Cadillac 2008 DTS dash lights [louiephipps]

Written by: louiephipps on Mar 15, 2011 1:26:40 PM

Does anyone at Cadillac read this forum? Surely there must be someone there that recognizes the serious problem of having a dashboard so dim that you can't see what your speed is. Just seems to me that this would not be that hard to fix...

I am having the same problem with my '07 DTS. Viewing the speedometer is virtually impossible in bright sunllight if I am wearing dark glasses. I'm concerned about a safety issue and also am very doubtful that a highway patrolman is going to accept my excuse for exceeding the speed limit. Could there be a liability issue with Cadillac on this problem? I've talked to 2 different dealers about the problem...they ... Read More

    Written by: csg43 on Feb 8, 2011 6:39:02 PM

My Cadillac dash lights dim themselves at will. The amount of sunlight or lack of it doesn't seem to affect the dimming. When they are dim, it is very difficult to see the speedometer in bright sunlight or fog. I have had the dimming switch replaced, and the dealership was supposed to order a "cluster" to repair the problem. I was told today that GM would not allow replacing the "cluster" ... Read More

Saturday, in the editorial pages of the Atlanta Journal, was an article about someone who bought a DTS (2008?) that was plagued with vibration issues, and all Caddy could do was tell him that they is nothing to be done about it...he rented another DTS in a city he flew to, and he was grateful that the rental DTS vibrated worse than his... ... Thanks very much for sharing your experience with T.C. and DTS. I have owned my T.C. for two years and my DTS for about fourteen months. It would be hard to part with either car in that each has features I like. As mentioned in previous posts the DTS is more of a performance sedan and the TC feels more like a luxury car. I alternate the cars driving DTS one ... Read More

I have a 2006 DTS the noise I hear sounds like an olld 8 track rewinding, it happens between 42 mph and 46 mph below or aboce that I don't hear it. I have test drove a 2007 and a 2008, the 2007 was louder and the 2008 was very quite. The dealership keeps telling me that don't know what it is and can't fix it. I called Cadillac about that ... Just out of curiosity has anyone on this forum had zero problems with a 2007 or 2008 DTS? I'm keeping my 2003 Deville forever at this rate. 65,000 miles and not one problem. Runs perfectly -everything works, and it gets 30 mpg on the road or more. I suppose when I finally do replace it I may look at a used Lincoln Town Car or used Lexus. Cadillac -as evidenced by ... Wes63: I'm sorry you're having this suspension issue with your DTS.....it sounds very similar to the unresolved problem we had with my 2006 DTS Lux III. From my experience, I would recommend you install only the tires recommended by the dealer (and let them do it). By installing tires purchased elsewhere, I unknowingly gave Cadillac a "way out" excuse which allowed them to completely blow me off with the claim that ... Read More

The GM representatives (the same one that told me there was nothing wrong with my car in Feb. 2008, but then a bad tie rod end was found!) came out and drove my car again on 4/9/2008. I am now waiting to see if they will re-purchase my 2006 DTS. Again, my wheels feel like bobble heads when I am going over any bumps in the road along with having front ... Read More

Judging from the posts on cadillacforums, I came to the conclusion that 2006 (which--correct me if I'm wrong--was the first year of the current design) was a particularly bad year for Cadillac. Even though the drivetrain was virtually identical, that year had many, many more complaints on quality. At least that's what I'm hoping since I will take delivery of a new 2008 DTS Performance next week. I'd have to disagree ... Read More

Glad to see this thread has come alive. I've owned a 2005 300C since Sept 04 and in a couple of weeks will take delivery of my first Cadillac--a 2008 DTS Performance. I'm anxious to see what my own reactions will be to the Caddy once the novelty wears off. The 300C has been pretty much a flawless performer--and averages 20 mpg for me--so it will be a tough act to ... Read More

A recent post on the cadillac owners webpage indicated there would be an interior upgrade to the DTS in 2009. Anyone here heard about that? One of my bigger disappointments, after a long test drive in a 2008 DTS, was getting picked up by a friend in her 2007 Impala and noting that the dash design was virtually identical to the 2X priced DTS. Chevy used to be called the poor ... Read More

I'm a '05 300C owner (36k miles) who's decided 2008 will be my Cadillac year. But can't decide between the CTS and DTS. First test drive of the CTS (15 minutes with the dealer) was underwhelming...so concluded a longer test is necessary to really evaluate the cars. Thanks for the information on Mercedes, having had the problems I've had with the DTS reliability is very important to me. The fact that your car is trouble free is a very important factor and should weigh heavily in your decision. The 2006 DTS rides well is less likely to lean in turns, the T.C. is very quiet on the road, handles very well for a car of its size, gets ... Read More

Now that I have had my 2006 DTS for close to three months I can say that I like the car better than my 2004 Deville. It has a much firmer suspension and the power delivery seems much more abundant and responsive than did the 04 Deville. On the negative side the 2006 DTS gets about 10% lower fuel economy than the 04 Deville. The 2008 DTS has no major changes ... Read More

I'm not crazy about a Town Car because every Ford I've owned has had multiple annoying problems (check engine light etc etc). My 2003 Deville has been trouble free. It is also (in my opinion) a lot better looking than the 2006/7 DTS. Unfortunately things change and I'll probably get a 2007 DTS after the ... Read More

My '03 cost $27k in January of '04 with 29k miles. It now has 55k and has needed nothing in the way of serious repairs. It came with a 6 year 100k 0 deductible warranty ... Read More

I bought the skyhawk because it had fuel injection (only buick that did) and also had automatic climate control as an option; the cimarron did not have the auto climate control. I do not see how a DTS-V will change Cadillac from their current state of medocrity. Cadillac has always sold cars in the low end of the luxury price range. That is where the profits are. Mercedes makes its profits on the low end C-class cars and the E-class. Both of these sell fairly well. The SRX is considered by some magazines to be a very good SUV or crossover or ... Read More

I think that the Ford GM six speed design was for FWDs, although I think the design is modular, so the six speed RWD design is probably related. However, putting the FWD six speed into the DTS and Lucerne will require some design changes for both the FWD northstar and the DTS/Lucerne transaxle. The question is whether the cost of doing this is worthwhile for the remaining production. As I said, ... Read More

I think that the FWD platform was designed for 300 lb-ft of torque and 300 horsepower. The 2007 DTS will not get the six speed automatic. I also think that both the Lucerne and DTS are the last of the big FWD G-platform cars. They will probably remain in production only until a suitable replacement is put into production. The DTS is not a performance car, it is a large medium ... Read More

Toyota has always handled consumer complaints poorly. They either blame the consumer (the engine sludge problem was always the fault of the owner -guess they finally fessed up) or tell you that it is either "normal" or "can't duplicate the problem". I'll most likely get a Certified 2007 or 2008 DTS (Luxury II package) in October, 2008 when my '03 Deville warranty runs out. If Cadillac downsizes the DTS I'll keep ... Read More

I'm going to drive a number of cars when the Cadillac warranty runs out in October, 2008. I've never really been a fan of the Town Car because of the gas mileage and the fact that it rode and handled sort of like my '53 Olds 98. The Deville/DTS is lots more modern technically. One option will be a Lincoln Town Car. The Lexus LS430 isn't any bigger than my Impala. Right now you can buy a 2006 Town Car for $29,995 -about a $14,000 discount. They are giving them away and they don't pretend to be anything more than they are -a big, comfortable luxury sedan. The gas mileage isn't as good as the Northstar but I'll seriously consider one in 2008. Cadillac is ... Read More

This is an interesting message. I think that you are right - the Deville/DTS is the volume seller to lots of people and to rental car companies. I'm 64 and drove Cadillacs when I was in my 20's so even then it wasn't entirely an "old folks" car. I currently have an '03 Deville and like it for exactly the reasons you pointed out.
