Thanks for the congrats lady. But I just got the base Deville. I like the base Deville's a little better than the DHS & DTS. And the reason is a silly one. Its because of the digital dash board. On the DHS & DTS I noticed that the dash board had both, the dial speedometer & RPM gauge, along with the digital speedometer. I didnt like the dial speedometer & RPM ... Read More

WOW and WOW again. I just looked up the lawsuits that Chetj talked about with Dexcool. It's not just the cadillac but many other GM makes using Dexcool!!!! 35 million cars affected !!! Lawyers trying for class action suit. Meanwhile, what to use instead of Dexcool ?????? This guy, former owner of the car, (I have all the repair papers) had a piston, rod and rings replaced/blown at 17,000 miles...and "hose, engine coolant, ... Read More

The problem is not manifold gaskets, it's head gaskets. And, it's not a Dexcool problem. The Northstar motor has always had this problem, and Cadillac does not seem to want to do any design work to correct it. Fear of head gasket problems is exactly why I do not own a Cadillac. My wife loves them, I am terrified of a $3,000 head gasket repair on a car worth only $10,000 ... Read More

Zim, I'm in florida so there are quite a lot of Cadillacs down here, and I found the ones with low mileage 19000 to 30000 miles were (02,03,04) were about 19 thou to 24 thou - and that was for base devilles, not the DHS (DHS was very hard to find)- but if you have a trade and can bargain it should bring it down - it depends on the dealership ... I have been shopping around for either a 2002 or a 2003 Deville now foor about a month now. And I have narrowed it down to two of them. But I live in Massachusetts and it seems like every one that I look at with about 50,000 miles is from $16000 to $19000. And every one of them that is under 50,000 is over &20,000. When I look down in the ... Read More

Also ladymylady go to google.com and type in "cadillac deville owners manual" and the first site that popps up is a site for cadallac deville owners manuals. Suprise suprise. Hehe. But anyway just click it and then click on the year you want and you can download the whole manual to your computer. But I would think that it still uses 10w-30 oil. And as for the fule injector cleaner, you ... Read More

Is this the Cadillac 'certified' warranty or some after-market one? For $1,000, I sure would jump on a certified warranty. But I thought Cadillac would only go to about a 7 year total, or something like that. Which would take a 2002 until about 2009 - which is only 2 years in the future? You need to know what you are getting....

a few more comments on reliability

My 2002 Seville LS had the torque converter lockup fail, which required the transaxle to be removed so that it could be taken apart. This also means that the engine is removed. The job is a full day (overnight) and so is expensive in terms of labor. My car is still under warranty. However, the Cadillac dealer is new, a Chevy dealer that recently got the franchise when the old Cadillac-Oldsmobile-GMC ... Read More

I actually went to the dealership to buy a new 2005 Solara SE convertible, but bought the Avalon instead. Coming out of a DeVille and two Lincoln Continentals before that, the Solara was just too small and agree, the ride was horrible - very stiff! I loved by 2000 Lincoln Continental but thought I'd give a 2002 DeVille a try. Caddy ride was too soft and steering too vague for me, ... Read More

Upgrading radio/CD to Navigation System
Written by: dhs1 on Nov 2, 2004 6:50:11 AM
I recently had an idea to upgrade my current Bose radio/CD/cassette in my 2001 DHS to the Navigation System and saw a Cadillac Navigation (DVD) unit from a 2002 Deville advertised on eBay with the note that the seller also wanted to do the same thing but was reselling the unit when he was told by several "sources" the unit was incompatible with the 2001 Deville. Try and get one under 4 years old and 50k mileage so you will get a break on an extended warranty. I wouldn't dream of having any car without a 100,000 miles 0 deductible 6 year warranty especially a Cadillac. When the warranty is gone so is the car. The 2001 model had leather standard and the 2002 had the most standard equipment including an electrochromatic (self dimming) outside side mirror ... Read More

You're more than welcome. Here are a few other considerations, for what they are worth: 1. Cadillac dealers may go the extra mile to deal in order to retain you as a caddy customer, it won't hurt to try to exert a little leverage when dealing, especially if you know approximate invoice/wholesale prices from sites like edmunds. 2. Current model devilles (2000 - 2004) are good looking cars. I still get ... Read More

Cadillac Owner Considering Jaguar Sedan For Next Car

I currently own a 1998 Deville with 35,000 miles. I generally trade cars when they get up around 50,000 miles. Am considering a Jaguar Sedan for my next car. Would probably buy a 2001 or 2002 with low mileage (under 30,000). Has anyone in this conference owned both a Cadillac and a Jaguar? How would you compare the two brands so far as Maintenance costs, ride, quality and general satisfaction is ... Read More

My 1994 DeVille had the trunk pull-down and little red lights above the rear window in the interior to show turn direction, brake lights, and illuminated taillamps. These features are strangely absent in my 2002 STS. I sure miss them! Of course my STS has a ... Read More

little changes

Does anyone remember when Cadillacs had those little "extra" touches that really separated them from the other GM products? Think back to say, 1983 or 1984. If you looked inside a Sedan DeVille as opposed to say, an Electra or Ninety Eight, you noticed certain things. For instance: 1. Cadillac (and all GM divisions) actually had their own shift and steering wheel designs 2. Ashtrays (all with lighters) made of real ... Read More

Just a note of appreciation for the folks on this thread. Your combined experiences contributed to my decision to purchase a new 2002 DeVille DTS--I thoroughly enjoy this vehicle! I had many different cars to choose from (Lexus, BMW, Lincoln...), but I found that the exceptionally quiet, controlled ride and responsive drive train of the Cadillac best suited me (Also like the body styling). Last Monday I replaced my Carmine Red 1994 Cadillac DeVille after eight years and 90,696 miles with a brand-new 2002 Seville STS. I would've loved to have kept my DeVille forever, but was at the point where I could keep it and run it into the ground or still get something for it as a trade-in.

Sorry to hear of your Cadillac problems. My 2001 has given me no problems. It rides and performs exactly how it should for a Cadillac. I hear the 2002 Devilles are even more refined. Don't give up on Cadillac yet. I think the best is yet to come.
