Written by: bolivar on Aug 13, 2011 12:48:56 AM

The head gasket problem is there for all Northstars. In about 2000 or so, Cadillac did some minor redesign, they changed the thread count, and I think increased the length of the head bolts. This supposedly helped the problem. But, this last guy has a 2001, so it is still there. The problem is this is an alumium engine and head. Alumium is soft, compaired to iron, and probably also goes ... Read More

From first 94 models until about 2000 they changed the bolt length and thread pitch which I think helped it somewhat. To make it run on regular gas, and different thread and longer headbolts to try to keep the head gaskets from failing so much. 2000 thru 2005 all about the same. Do you have much money for repairs? This is a complicated car with complex electronics. Problem areas -Head gaskets leak which cause thousands to fix because heads have to be pulled and special threads put into alumium block. (2000 redesign of motor helped this problem a lot.) -1997 should have a recall on ABS brake pump. Check to see this has been done. -Solonid for 'overdrive' lockup fails, and it also ... Read More

Does anyone have experience with remote starters for 2000 (or earlier) Devilles? I am thinking about those cold rides home after a long day at the office. Does Cadillac offer one? Thanks, Frank

How hard do Cadillacs get hit by depreciation? If a 2000 DeVille were being traded in say w/ 11,000 miles, could it seriously be worth $ 10,000. less than when new? Is that excessive depreciation? Would say a Mercedes take the same kind of hit? Do luxury cars in general take a harder hit than other segments?

I'm 25 and I too like Cadillacs alot. I've always loved the Eldorado and hope Cadillac has future plans for the nameplate other than putting it on a $70K+ roadster. I think the Evoq(whatever it will be called) will be a great asset to the Cadillac line, but Cadillac needs to continue to offer a good sized luxury coupe. With the Riviera and Mark VIII gone, the US auto industry needs ... Read More

My wife and I are both 31 and recently rented a Cadillac DeVille. We expected to be impressed, but were truly overwhelmed. We had been in the market to buy a high-quality, luxury sedan and, beyond any doubt, Cadillac's DeVille DHS completely outperformed the competition in every category in our opinion. Last Thursday (August 31), we purchased a 2000 cashmere DHS and were very happy with the purchase process (paid $44,073) ... Read More

Thanks for the insight on age demographics. Interesting that the actual sales of DHS's and DTS's for 2000 were higher than Cadillac had predicted vs. the base Deville.

at the birthdates of our clients and get you some info. Just watching and guessing at the average age of people walking thru the door today I would have to say 47 - 52 age range. That is based on a sample of about 100 people. I feel that is about as good and accurate a sample as you can get. About half of those people were interested in the deville. ... Read More
