1998 Cadillac DeVille D'elegance 4dr Sedan

Review

I purchased a 98 Deville D'elegance with 62k from an older gentleman. This car was almost perfect, did all maintenance, coolant flush, trans filter fluid, plugs wires, brakes, and rebuilt front end with new shocks, tie rod ends and ball joints. This car is power and smooth with many options standard that many new cars do not have. After replacing the shocks the car is nice to drive but its no sports car. This is just a cruiser that can give a beat down to kids with Honda's trying to pass you up. I live in Seattle so nothing but hills, MPG is 16 no matter what I do, but if I travel on the freeway it gets 26mpg with tires infalted to 38 pounds.

Best Features

Silky smooth Northstar V8, auto everything (lights, wipers), memory/heated seats, stock sound systems sounds amazing and keyless entry.

Worst Features

Cruise controls are outdated, the steering column and turning signal is the same type used in 70's cars. Its not easy to speed up or slow down unless you use your pedals and reset. No power steering wheels, and I do not like front wheels drive, torq steer on the freeway is terrible if you floor it to pass someone, be careful in the rain!

Review

I have found the Deville to be comfortable, quiet, and surprisingly fuel efficient. The car averages 23 MGP. Highway mileage approaches 27-29 MPG. The Northstar V8 is strong and responsive. Obviously, a car of this size does not handle like a sports car, nor was it designed to do so, but it is a beautifully designed cruiser. Virtually every option was ahead of its time back in 1998, and they are still workings flawlessly 13 years later. A true testament in reliability!

Best Features

I love this Deville! The luxurious appointments are well defined. Fuel efficient. Stability Control. Class!

Worst Features

The car is timeless.

1998 Cadillac DeVille D'elegance 4dr Sedan

Review

I bought this car with 78 thousand miles on it. Everything is working great on it and it rides smooth. It has the power to get up and go in a seconds notice. I didn't realize how big it really was till I sat in the backseat. Smooth Cadillac ride and lots of power. Gas mileage is pretty decent, better than I expected. My mom owns a 2006 impala and the deville has all the features the impala does and more even being as old as it is. No regrets buying this car. I plan to buy another.

Best Features

Great size and comfort.

Worst Features

Gas mileage could improve. Interior stains easily.

Review

There's nothing quite like a drive in a Cadillac. The exterior is unique and the interior is spacious. It certainly turns heads especially being 25 and owning one for pleasure driving. 4.6L engine with 300 horses that begs to be unleashed out on the open road.

Best Features

Power heated leather seats, Bose sound system, just the prestige of ownership

Worst Features

4.6L North*Star Aluminum block engine (Engine cast mold from GM were produced with cracks) that is prone to head gasket repair (most shops will not repair, labor intensive) Brake lines rust rather quickly. Look for the 4.9L engine model that was phased out in 97- 98 instead or buy pre-owned certified

1998 Cadillac DeVille Concours 4dr Sedan

Review

Rides like a big car, it is a big car. Have a small car for work, but wanted a cadliac for other times. This year and model has everything you can think a car should have. People look at it when it goes by, a car should get noticed. Repairs are high and there are things I have to fix. But for a car 11 years old, looks good and rides like only a big car can. Purchased an American car even if GM is having problems. Parts and people who can work on it are still working.

Best Features

As we said years ago, it's cool. Heated seats, lots of toys, great ride, room to spread out for everyone. It comes with everything a car used to have.

Worst Features

Northstar engine does leak oil. Gas is the most expensive gas at the pump. Shock replacement not cheap, but can be done.
