For service: Follow the manual or the dealer recommendations?
Written by: micsmi on Nov 25, 2004 9:37:28 AM
I have been to 2 Cadillac dealers, I have a 2003 CTS, and both recommend much more be done at each service than the manual. Also, they recommend service more often. I know that the manufacturer tries to minimize the cost of owning the car when developing service schedules. In today's environment, can you just follow the service schedule that came with the car and keep it in good running order? ... Read More

My 2003 CTS LuxSport automatic has nearly 40K miles on it now. So far, here's the list of things that have happened: C-pillar curtain air bag sail panel came loose twice. Fixed under warranty both times. Dashboard clock not matching time with radio clock. Fixed under warranty (new dash cluster). Curiously this happened again recently and later it corrected itself, so I think there is something to the new dash cluster. ... Read More

"After about 8 miles of driving whine from drive train starts. Any input appreciated." I'm assuming you are referring to the infamous CTS , and SRX for that matter, rear differential whine. My 04 had it too, like yours, it wasn't there when the car was cold, it had to warm up first. The whine on mine was between about 25 and 35 mph, and was when I gave it a ... Read More

2003 CTS
Written by: shifty4 on Jul 11, 2004 5:58:45 PM
I agree with the word "adequate" to describe the engine power in the 2003 CTS. "Adequate" is probably an appropriate word to describe nearly all aspects of the vehicle. There is little about the car to produce more laudatory superlatives. The car handles well and corners great but the engine power, the sewing machine like sound of the V6, the many engineering and assembly deficiencies coupled with the marginal dealer service ... I dropped by one of the local dealers here in Nashville (Crest) and discovered that they had a silver CTS-V just sitting on the lot. This muscle car was sitting next to one of the most unfortunate posers I'd ever seen. The poor CTS being sold in the next space looked like a refugee from MTV's "Pimp My Ride". In addition to the faux V-series grill, the car had Vogue wheels ... Read More

Cadillac is kicking Lincoln to the Curb
Written by: b4z on May 1, 2004 5:59:20 AM
Looks like Lincoln is basically imploding. Or Cadillac is just too strong. Production data for the first 4 months of the year: Cadillac: 2004 is 92,584 vs. 75,898 in 2003. Lincoln: 2004 is 55,143 vs. 59,712 in 2003. CTS 2004 is 24,702 vs. 21,940 in 2003. LS 2004 is 8,487 vs. 15,694 in 2003. SRX production is up also to a high of 906 this week. Around 43,000 CTSs have been produced so there will be about 50,000 produced for 2003! If sales continue to hold up there will ... Read More

According to autonews.com's weekly manufacturing report, Cadillac has built 41,262 CTS's in 2003. At the same time last year, there were only about 30,770 CTS's produced. This seems right since CTS interest really didn't pick up until spring 2002 despite being on sale since January 2002.
