Test Driver Ratings & Comments
Acceleration commentsFairly unremarkable in every way. It's a little noisy, and the engine sure sounds and feels like it's working hard to move the car. Crisp/smooth upshifts at 6,500. Has barely enough power to chirp the tires with traction control off, so barely different results with traction on versus traction off. In manual mode, it bounces off the 7,000-rpm rev limiter, then upshifts?!
Braking commentsSoft pedal with gradual jump-in doesn't build confidence; however, good stopping power/distances speak to adequate hardware. Also, tightly grouped stops varied by just 3 feet, so fade isn't an issue, either. Together, it's a mixed bag.
Handling commentsSlalom (slightly damp conditions): Even manually selecting 3rd gear to keep revs up isn't sufficient to propel this car through the slalom -- it turns into a momentum conservation exercise. Yet go in too hot and it understeers, while if you're too slow, there's nothing left by the last cone. Best result was slow in and (nearly) going to wide-open throttle ASAP. With ESC on, could go in faster, but not much. Skid pad (slightly damp conditions): Mild and gentle understeer at the limit with ESC off. Turning on ESC allows flat-footing throttle all the way around. Either way, steering is numb but precise; adequately weighted but springy.
