I think your problem is your mechanic more than your car. For a car to run there has to be air, fuel and spark. When a car won't run, we check for spark using at worst a screwdriver stuck in a plug wire and held close to a ground on the motor while the car is cranked. If no spark then troubleshoot ignition. I have been having problems with by battery dying during the cold weather. I found that I had a current draw on my battery at all times. I pulled the fuses until I found where the current draw was coming from. Then I narrowed it down to the gauge cluster. I have no idea whether it's the cluster or the wiring harness. Has anyone else had issues with this???

Here is your too late, knowledgeable answer - ignition switch. I had all sorts of strange problems on my '99 GS; engine shut down when put blinker on, airbag light that would not shut off, other dash lights not shutting off and finally the car would not start. On my mechanics recommendation I had a Buick dealership do the replacement work. Since the replacement, I have not had any problems.

Take off the oil cap and look underneath. If you see any sludge, then odds are the car wasn't maintained properly (i.e. oil changes not performed at the correct intervals). I wouldn't be concerned of the brakes. If you need new rotors, so be it. Chances are if they are OEM, after 98,000 miles it's time for fresh rotors. The engine block has a great reputation for reliability. But confirm there ... Read More
