Okay. Let me save you some trouble and money. Just replace the ignition switch. I am a woman and for two years I had been having the same problem, off and on with my 1997 Regal. It seemed to act up in the fall with the cool weather and then seemed to stop in the spring. Each fall the occurrences would get more frequent and worse. The car would never let me ... Read More

I have a 1997 Buick Regal LS, when I get it started the speedometer goes back and forth wildly and the anti-lock brake light is on with a few other lights that shouldn't be. It runs fine, but when I turn the turn-signal left, it buzzes, when I turn it right, it kills the car and I can't get it to start again for awhile. I've had the alternator looked at, ... Read More

Disconnect the battery and connect the cables together to reset the controller's door position. The doors should perform a sweep test to relearn door positions. If this fixes the problem, a revised controller is available. Bulletin #02-01-39-001 is related. If that does not fix the problem, use a scan tool to monitor door commanded and actual door positions. Also check for poor a/c performance problem. It is common to cause different ... Read More

Is is possible to "bottom out" once to cause "major damage" to the power steering and tie rods? Enough damage where they "need to be replaced immediately"? This concerns a 1997 Buick Regal with roughly 145,000 miles on the odo.

Valve cover gaskets leaking seem to be a common GM product problem. I had a 1988 Chevy Celebrity that starting leaking at 30,000 miles and it was 8 years old at that time. I drove it another 10 years with out ever replacing the gasket. My 1997 Regal, which I bought last year with only 42,000 miles on it, starting leaking about two months after I purchased it. The Celebrity had ... Read More

The 2001 - 2004 models were not as well equipped with 'standard' items. I believe items such as drivers side air bag and traction control became options. Then for 2002 the traction control went back to becoming a standard feature. IMO, the best year for the car was 2000 of the 1997.5 - 2004 model years. I say that not because I once owned a 2000 GS. But because it was ... Read More

Hi Gary2. If you mean the inside of the lens has condensation, this is a fairly common problem. Often happens due to high pressure wands at do-it-yourself car washes. The entire headlamp assembly can be easily removed without any tools. Just slide out a couple of black plastic clips from the back. On the back of the assembly are 3 or 4 round rubber covers. You can remove them and direct ... Read More

I have a 1997 1/2 Buick Regal GS. I have really enjoyed driving this car. I am having a problem with the car overhearing only when I turn on the air-conditioning. It takes some time but the car will eventually overheat. Any ideas? I also have asked the local dealership to change the supercharger oil on my car which has 73,000 miles and I am told this is not necessary. Sean ... Read More

This car is loaded. It is a GM Executive driven vehicle w/ less than 6k miles. The dealer is offering it to me for $17.9k. I have a Buick full line brochure for every year from 1991 to 1997. In the 96, there is not many pictures of the coupe not alot mentioned about it. Those are not overly common. Funny, back when the Regal went to that body style(1988) they only made them in coupes.
