Review of the 2005 Buick Rainier

  • Quiet and powerful, especially in V8 form, the Rainier fails to look and act the part of a luxury SUV in most other respects.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Exceptionally quiet ride, strong optional V8, easy to get in and out, decent off-road ability.

  • Cons

Subpar build and materials quality, sloppy handling, lacks key safety features, not enough storage space.

  • What's New for 2005

Broken suspension and transmission

by on
Vehicle: 2005 Buick Rainier CXL Rwd 4dr SUV (4.2L 6cyl 4A)

For the past 2 years I have been dealing with my suspension,I bought the car at carmax, they fixed the comressor only to find out I need an air bag,and what they couldn't see that the holes in the air bag is what is causing it to sag. And of course I am now out of warranty so I have to pay out of pocket. Now my transmission is slipping and it doesn't want to move faster than 35mph.It won't shift into 3rd gear. What else can go wrong with this car....If I knew what i know now about it I would never have bought it! Oh and warranty parts at carmax SUCKS!6MO OR 6000 MILES WHICH COMES FIRST, HOW ABOUT A YEAR LIKE OTHER PLACES OR DEALERS!

Best automobile i have ever

Most trouble free auto I have ever owned. It is quiet and handles well in curves.

Buick rainier: too many headaches

Vehicle: 2005 Buick Rainier CXL Rwd 4dr SUV (4.2L 6cyl 4A)

Bad fuel sender. Buick sends a notice to finally to cover 1/2 the repair cost. Too late. Driver's side door handle. Broken twice. Part is engineered to fail. $127 to buy $4 of plastic Rear air suspension problems. This will be the last Buick I ever own.

What's New for 2005

The CXL Plus trim level is dropped in favor of a single CXL model; a CD/MP3 player stereo is newly optional; real wood replaces the fake stuff for the steering wheel and shift knob; and various upgrades help spruce things up inside. Full-length head curtain airbags make their way to the options list, though Buick has dropped last year's seat-mounted side airbags (which provided torso protection for front occupants).

I think you meant the Buick Rainier (the Trailblazer clone) rather than the Buick Rendezvous (the Aztek [blech!] clone)....

Anyway, being a Regal GS owner, I checked out the Buick floor-space and found...tumbleweeds. They had very few onlookers checking out what they had to offer, unfortunately. The Rainier SUV was getti...
