Very reliable Buick
Vehicle
1998 Buick Park Avenue 4 Dr STD Sedan
Review
This car is the best I have ever owned in my 40 years of driving. My husband, now deceased said it was my car because I liked it so much. It is beautiful and I get many compliments about it. I have kept it it good condition and have followed the Buick program for annual maintence procedures. Such as 60,000 mile check-up procedures. I most like the bench front seat which most vehicles do not have. We found it gives very good milage for this size and make auto, 25-28 miles per gal.with conservative driving practices on highway driving.
Favorite Features
Leather upholstery, power driver seatw/memory, electro: rear view mirror, rain sensing windshield wipers. audio system. Very relialbe performance.
Suggested Improvements
Better rust protection in doors.

Review
This car has given excellent service over the last four years. It has only had two major failures both of which had to do with the plenium (intake manifold) rupturing and dumping water on the pistons. Neither instance seemed to have harmed performance in any way. The only other problem--last week the power steering unit fell off. I do not remember any specific thing I may have hit in the road that could have broken the bolts, but the car has had a couple of jolts from things which I ran over at high speed. One of which was the recap off a truck tire at night. It did warp a rim. It's cranked right away (179,000 miles) and it has been a great road car.
Favorite Features
Rides comfortably and has enough zip to get around things on the road.
Suggested Improvements
Intake manifold (plennum) needs to be redesigned. Seat upholstery could be better from a design standpoint.

Good but some flaws.

Overall a very good car, but several things are frustrating. The ash tray will break and not stay closed due to a poor design. A new one costs $125. You can fix it yourself for free if you take it out and see the problem area. Definate flaw! Also the covers on the back of the front seats weren't attached very well. These will also break. They can be fixed for free again with a drill and a screw, but how many people will do that who drive a Buick. Shouldn't have too either.
Favorite Features
Tie for favorite 1)Rain sensing wipers and 2)Grand Touring suspension
Suggested Improvements
Fix the ashtrays for free. Especially since these were made for so many years. Admit a flaw and fix it!!! That may impress people in the long run.

I'm not old & gray but liked the Park Av

I've driven my Pk Ave for 6 yrs, and enjoyed the comfort ride, many perks, fuel economy and size. Wrecked it and got good front end protection (I totaled the full sized pickup truck I hit!). Large trunk is great. Didn't like the suspension - the bottom drops hard in some cases. Also huge expense at 120,000 miles for repairing the plastic intake manifold $1300!! Common problem according to the mechanic, and they no longer use plastic, he says. Only selling it to get a car large enough to handle our dog kennel!

perfect cruiser

This is the perfect car for any occasion. It is comfortable and gets incredible fuel miledge for the size of this interstate cruiser. I am only 24 years old, and I know that this is typically an older man's car, but I, and my friends my age, are very impressed. I clocked in on our last vacation a 500 miles tank of fuel and averaged 34.4 Miles Per Gallon!! That is truley amazing! Garrett

Best car I've owned
Vehicle
1998 Buick Park Avenue 4 Dr STD Sedan
Review
I have enoyed owning this car. We are selling due to the large size of our family. I reluctantly agreed with my wife on this decision. I find the car to have all the luxury of a very expensive car. The pleasure of driving a quality solid built large car is most satifying when your used to cheaply built economy vehicles. The gas mileage has been surprisingly good (21 to 28 mpg) for a large car. My wife bought a new Buick Regal in 1990 that we drove until last summer. We then sold it and it is still on the road with over 170,000 miles. I may not buy other GM products, but I will buy another Buick.
Favorite Features
Theres nothing like a Park Avenue package which is loaded! I like the dimming mirrors and moisture sensing wipers.

Bought used after it sat for one year and had many problems that were fixed under warranty and those have not reoccured. Interior trim needs better attachments - snap ins do not hold, gave up on trim on side between front and back, exterior door handle broke, cassette player broke 2 weeks miles after warranty expired. Note on seatbelt - there was a recall.
Favorite Features
Enjoy roominess (whole reason I bought car) Rides and runs well though already went thru tires at 38000

Improve on above - when I replace will entertain buying same but make sure interior improvements made
