Buick Park Avenue Electrical / Lighting Problems

Okay, here's what happened with my mother's 2000 Park Avenue. She was having problems with it intermittently "not starting". Her dealer could not fix it after several tries. After the dealer closed, another mechanic tried fixing it and failed, Then AAA towing recommended Al (at Al's Family Repair in Ocala Florida) took a stab at it. He first diagnosed a weak fuel pump. The fuel pump was replaced and it was ... Read More

My 2000 Park Avenue is having what sounds like the same problem. It does not even turn over when turning the key. When it resets itself, it starts fine and will do so for days or weeks at a time. The machanic could not find a problem because it would not replicate the issue when at the shop. He thought it may be a nuetral switch in the tranny. Took it ... Read More

  • Buick Park Avenue Power Windows Slow

Written by: dabeitz on Oct 4, 2010 12:58:45 PM

I have a 2005 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with about 105,000 miles on it. When the temperature is above 60F, and it's dry, the power windows work normally. As soon as the temp drops below 60 or it rains (even a heavy dew can cause the problem) the windows operate incredibly slowly. It can take 30 seconds or more to get the window from closed to fully down. Sometimes the windows ... Read More

Hello. this is my first forum....not even sure I'm doing it right. My mother is having a problem with her 2000 Park Avenue. When it starts and runs, it runs like a top but sometimes and you never know when or where, it will not start...sometimes after sitting over night, other times after she runs into the grocery store. The Buick dealer in town who sold it to her went out ... Read More

Hi, my mom is having similar problems and no one in her small town can fix it! Her 2000 Park Avenue starts most of the time but all too often won't and when mechanics look at it, even holding it for two days at a time...can't find the problem. Now she is afraid to drive it. We need to give OUR mechanic something to look for....any ideas?

The key itself for the Park Avenue does not have any visible black chips built into the neck of the key, it is just a plain key. My 2001 Regal does have such a system but is currently having no issues. All of the talk of the security system has started me to try changing to the other spare key which has hardly been used. I was thinking that perhaps the ... Read More

Since my last post # 193 last Oct. - my Park Avenue has traveled more than 15,000 miles without a hitch. Thanks to those who suggested the crank sensor which cured the intermittent quiting problems. Just thought some might be interested. Jake

I would like to thank everyone for their advice on my Park Avenue. I had the crank sensor changed and have gone 3 weeks and 1500 miles without of hitch. I purchased the sensor off Ebay for 1/4 the cost of a new one from a seller who purchases overstock parts. Once again --- Thanks. Jake :)

You might check the connections to the ISC which is the unit under the three coils. The contacts occasionally don't (CONTACT) and then restart. I just read another problem car with some miles that would die after running for a while because the fuel pump was heating up and not working right. The description was that it would start right back up. I assume that's because it cools quickly when it's ... Read More

Thanks for the info. It was a great starting point. We did check the crankshaft sensor and found it to be OK. I was also told sometimes the waterpump can leak and short this sensor out, but we found no leaks. However, something I didn't think about was checking the fuses. I had a bad key chip and thought the problem might be in the ingnition switch even after buying new ... Read More

I'd say the odds are about 100 to 1 that the crankshaft position sensor is going out on you. It is sometimes abbreviated as a CKP sensor. This happened to my father's 2001 and another symptom it would show was the tachometer would drop to zero. I drove his 2001 for a while as I tried a couple things to diagnose it. Typically, if I was driving over 50mph when it ... Read More

I have a 2000 Park with 95000 miles. It has been an excellent car with few maintenance problems. Lately, while driving the engine will die for no apparent reason. I just shift to neutral and then it starts up again. This has happened about 4 or 5 times now in the last 1500 miles. Any clues. Thanks.

Hello, Just recently I starting having an issue with the Service Stability System light coming on. I have associated this light with a braking issue that also just started. Intermittently when braking and starting a turn to the right there is a nasty grinding noise, which sounds like it's coming from the brakes. It will stop once I start to accelerate and pull out of the turn. I took the vehicle ... Read More

Okay, I have been having problems with my transmission. Here's a link to a good article by semi-retired Phila Inquirer auto writer Al Haas (one of the best) about picking up a 2000 Buick Park Avenue coming off lease. He recommends it, especially in the base form (due to price). His impression is that the car is well-powered without the Ultra's supercharger, and he likes the Gran Touring suspension over the standard. http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/classifieds/automotive/5060729- - - .htm Regards, -ss4
