I test drove both the Lucerne and LaCrosse before purchasing a new 2011 LaCrosse earlier this week. The Lucerne rides like the Cadillac DTS I recently had- very comfortable ride. I have heard the Lucerne is going to be phased out soon for another model. I have not heard the LaCrosse is going to be replaced. I liked both cars very much- but the LaCrosse handles like a sports car ( ... Read More
I have the exact same problem with my 2008 Lucerne. Seems like a software problem. If the program is smart enough to realize that when the sun is behind the car it is safer to have the headlights at the higher setting it should also know enough to turn up the cluster display. Possibly the system is designed so those two functions are linked. Controlling the headlight setting independently of the ... Read More
I have over 11,000 miles on my car now and feel very familiar with it. As to the gas mileage, I have the Northstar V-8, a very smooth reliable engine. On the trip down from New Jersey to Florida it got 24-26 MPG. Now that I have it in routine service it gets approximately 18-22 MPG in combination driving, depending upon how much I am on the expressway. I use 93 ... Read More

I have been dealing, since December 2008, with a defective factory installed Nav. system in my '08 Lucerne Super. The Nav. system will route you as much as 6 hours further than my $200 Garmin for a trip from Little Rock, Arkansas to Atlanta, Georgia. The town I live in is over 200 years old and I live less than a 1/4 of a mile from downtown and the system will ... Read More
This is amazing! We purchased a used 2008 Azera after looking at several near-luxury cars, including the Lucerne. We thought the Buick was pretty good but the Azeras we tried were good too. Unfortunately, we didn't get to test drive the one we purchased on a real rough road before we completed the deal. On the way home, over bad roads, it became clear that we were not happy with the ... My 2007 Lucerne CXL V8 listed for $37,235.00. We got it 11/09/08 for $27,497.13 before adding tax, title, etc. After taking $2,000.00 more off with GM card points, we might not have the best deal around, but saving about $12,000.00 off MSRP, we are not too unhappy. Ours was a new leftover. We are averaging over 20 mpg with town and country miles and we we got a high of 26.9 ... Read More
My car is a 2007 CXL V-8, purchased on 10/31/08; The sticker price was $32,500.00 and I paid $21,700.00 for the vehicle before adding tax, tag, title and before subtracting GM Card points. Clearly the dealer decided to take a bath on the unit. It had been in their inventory for 2 full years and was in the showroom for a long time. Moreover, the dealer was superb and their personnel ... Riviera, So you paid about $23,400 for the V-8 CXL (before using your points). I prefer the v-6 which should be a bit cheaper than the V-8....What do you think would be a good price on a 2008 CXL leftover?.....I was hoping 19,500 might do it?
Blow them off and look around on the internet. That is what I did. I traveled a considerable distance to get what I wanted but it was worthwhile in the end.
I am hoping to revive this board. I am looking at buying a car and have been considering the Buick Lucerne CXL. I put in an offer of $19,500 which the dealer did not accept. The dealer advertised the car for $19,500 but it was a gimmick that required a $2,000 lease incentive (I don't have a lease) and a $2,000 Q4 garage mate direct mail private letter offer (it is ... I received a document ID #2074841 #PIC4799 concerning my fuel gauge problems with my 07 Buick Lucerne CXL from General Motors. This is a problem for 2006-2008 Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS models. Should anyone wish a copy of the service bulliten please let me know. Bob
Has anybody got a cure for my inability to read the instrument panel on the 2008 Lucerne in the daytime? I cannot believe that Buick has not put out a service bulletin on this problem. Surely there is a fix of some kind. Thanks for your help.
Check the TMV price http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/buick/lucerne/100890177/prices.html you will get the invoice number there and what people are paying. I paid about $150 below invoice in early December before the rebates. I also put about 25% down and negotiated a rate that was 3/4' of a point below gms rate and the dealer made money on that. You can also go through capitol one auto buying, depending on area and model they are ... Read More
Hi sheepdog1. I don't believe that General Motors is offering supplier pricing to consumers who are not normally eligible for this plan. GMAC's current base lease rate and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2008 Buick Lucerne with 15,000 miles per year are 4.45% and 52%, respectively. The lease rate is the same for a 39 month lease, but the residual would drop to 51%. GM is providing ... Read More
Hi sheepdog1. General Motors is running a special lease on the 2008 Buick Lucerne right now. GMAC's current base lease rate for this car is 4.45%. In addition to this special lease rate, GM is providing a $500 cash incentive on leases of this car. Make sure to take this cash into account when negotiating the capitalized cost for your lease. If you are not having a problem with your fuel gauge, you are fortunate. Owners of 2007 and 2008 Lucerne's are experienicing the same problem as me. Again, according to Buick, this is their design and may take up to ten miles of driving for the fuel gauge to correct itself. They are right as I have tested this several times. Not sure why yours work correctly and mine doesn't.
What you are describing is not my problem. My fuel gauge problems started from day one when I purchased the car new (Aug 2006). I have had several contacts with other Lucerne owners experiencing the same problem as I. This problem is occurring in the 2007 and 2008 models. As for LeSabres, I have owned two, a 1989 and a 2002 both purchased new and never had any problems with the ... Read More

I can't understand why the Lucerne does not have the 3.6 liter V6 engine with the 6 speed auto. transmission for model year 2008. I agree with you 100 Percent that the Lucerne should have the 3.6 Liter 6 speed auto. trans. for the 2008 model year as an optional engine/transmission. If the Chevy Malibu can have it for 2008 as an option, the Buick Lucerne which is suppose to be ... Read More
One thing the Azera doesn't have like the kia amanti is navigation. This is something that the american cars like the buick lucerne, chrysler 300, and 2008 ford tarus/mercury sable have began to embrace. For some reason when japense midsize family cars like the accord/altima/camry started having navigation with american cars you could only get navigation on cadillacs, lincolns and SUVS or Trucks. This is a big thing as I wouldn't ... Read More
Hi eddiedee. What you were told is incorrect. General Motors' lease program for the 2008 Buick Lucerne is actually exactly the same as it is for the 2007 model. GMAC's current base lease rate and residual value for a 36 month lease of an '08 Lucerne with 15,000 miles per year are 3.0% and 52%, respectively. As far as the demo car that you are interested in goes, as long as ... Read More

I had the opportunity to test drive the 2008 Sable as well as the Lucerne, Avalon and 300. The Avalon was a way too mushy ride. Just did not feel "secure" in the driver's seat driving twisting and turning roads. The 300 visibility out the front just plain sucked. Power wasn't all that great and neither was the ride. The Buick -- while it had enough get up and go -- ... Read More
I just found out from my local Buick dealer that the 2008 LaCrosse Super will be getting the 5.3 liter engine plus a heavy duty trans and suspension to handle the 303 ponies. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/FVDP/Preview/styleId=100704034
It's working fine Kirstie. I plug in the search window 2007, then 2008, then 2009, then 2010, then 2011. Each one of those years I type under the "Search Forums" space I can find anything with those years in the title. ;) Well back to the 2011' RWD Buick Lucerne ;) Rocky
The Lucerne needs to have a 6 speed auto tranny to be competitive with similar cars in its class. Maybe in the 2008 model!? Come on Buick, it's long overdue.
Have you heard the latest news. The 3800 is being phased out by GM in calendar year 2008 and the 3.9 Liter engine is its successor. I prefer a strong V6 engine in a car the size of the Lucerne. A V8 engine burns to much gas for me.
I hope GM make changes to the Buick Lucerne for model year 2008, such as a more modern V6 engine like the 3.9 Liter or 3.6 Liter and other refinements the car needs as noted in some car review websites. If no changes are made by model year 2008, I will leave Buick (I currently drive a Buick LeSabre) and might buy a 2008 or later Ford 500 or Mercury Montego ... Read More
I read Ford will have a new more powerful 3.5 Liter V6 engine with a new six speed automatic transmission in two of its large cars, the redesigned Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego for the 2008 model year. I read the 3800 engine will ceased production in 2008. Does anymore know if the Buick Lucerne for the 2008 model year will have the new 3.9 Liter engine (currently in the 2006 Chey Impala) as an optional engine? The 3800 engine currently in the 2006 Lucerne was a great engine for years but time has now past it by. I believe the optional V8 engine in the Buick Lucerne burns ... Read More
Can any of you Car Experts out there explain to me why GM does not offer 3 different engines for the 2006 Buick Lucerne? If the Lucerne had 3 different engines I believe more people like myself would consider buying the car. I currently own a 2001 Buick Lesabre. Chrysler offers 4 different engines for its 300 Sedan. The Lucerne will get a 6 speed automatic either 2007 or 2008 from what I'm hearing. GM has plans to produce over 3 million 6 speed autos by 2010 ;) As far as VVT, I'm not sure why it didn't make it to the Lucerne. Perhaps this will be done in the next few years. The plan is for the Lucerne to go to RWD with a possible All Wheel Drive ... Read More
I think GM used this engine because they have to produce it and it must go into something. I don't think Buick wanted this engine at all. The 3800 is going to be in cars bought by rental agencies and people more concerned about mileage than acceleration. If you want fast 0-60 times this isnt the car for you, even the V8 isnt all that fast. This car isnt about smoking ... Read More
The Lucerne will be built on the G body along with the new DTS. Think of it as the slightly larger Aurora replacement. Buick gets a Zeta flagship car (Invicta) for 2007 or 2008. Bonneville is still up in the air, but the latest reports are that it will be replaced along with the Grand Prix with the Zeta G8. The coupe version will be the GTO.
