Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration comments"Trac off." Only allows 1,500 rpm with brake and throttle pedals pushed at the same time, so flashing the throttle just as the brake is released allows more spin and produces the best times. No redline indicated on the tachometer, but upshifts at 6,000 rpm. Very nice, smooth shifts.
Braking ratingAverage
Braking commentsWhat a mess. Noisy and slow-cycle ABS, plus gravelly tires and lots of dive all conspire to produce less-than-confident feel and long stops.
Handling ratingAverage
Handling commentsIt doesn't take much to break the 60-mph mark in the slalom these days, but the Lucerne isn't up to the task. Too nose-heavy with that big V8 and front-wheel drive. Its suspension is too soft and its tires are too hard.
