Okay, Here is the end of the story. I traced the lines back to the connector for the programmer. When I too the connector out, the nipples were not cracked, etc. However, when I plugged it back in, the air conditioner started to function properly. Go figure. If you have enough vacuum to move the motors for 20-30 seconds after engine shutoff, then your underhood llines are okay. It's the connector for the programmer for the 4-5 lines. If you don't have much vacuum, check at engine end next to large brake booster hose for rotted rubber end for the plastic vacuum line. Check under Relay Center cover down in bundle of wires for the T connection and ... Read More

Thanks for the info. I will read through and check out the other discussions. I will also see if I can hear vacuum motors moving after I cut the engine. Very strange indeed because there is no discernible loss of power (engine not running rough...like you sometimes see in a vacuum leak), and the problem seems to get better (i.e., air comes out of the mid level) if I run the ... You've either lost vacuum to the programmer box from the motor side or the little distributor plastic connector on the corner of the programmer box is collapsing. So when I first start my car, the AC blows only on window and floor, but not Mid level. No-matter what I do, I cannot get it to change. However, after the car has been running for about 15 minutes, it will gradually change on it's own to blow through the mid level vents. The air is also cold (so that doesn't seem to be an issue). Do you have the automatic dual air conditioner? If so I'd ask first if you have done anything around the wiring and vacuum tubing under the dash? If you have the standard system I haven't worked with that one. I have had many wonderful hours of underdash time with my dual ACC and replacing the programmer when bypassing the vacuum tubes that control the doors. The reason I suspect a ground ... Read More

I just read a disturbing article about 44 engine fires in Buick LeSabres. Does anyone know if GM has addressed this problem? The government is investigating.

I have owned my 2000 LeSabre Limited with the Grand Touring Package since June of 1999. It has the Firestone Affinity tires. I have been completely satisfied with the car and everything that came on it. I have not experienced any vibration at any speed. Considering a 2000 Buick LeSabre Limted with about 7k, Y56, 16" Affinity tires, leather buckets, console, traction control and HUD (not sure if it has heated seats). LeSabre should be called "LifeSaver". It saved my Mom's life in a horrible collision! My Mom was driving the speed limit in a 35MPH zone and was hit head-on & on the driver's side by an oncoming Porsche 911 cruising out of control at 82MPH! I have a 2000 LeSabre with 16 inch tires and it does not have the Grand touring pkg. The 2000 is more than a step up in ride firmness from the 1999 model, even in standard suspension. It's usually wise to allow the company about 6-8 months of production on any new model change before you buy. The LeSabre problems you mentioned are not common among other owners that I know. Those first few months of production will always have production start up bugs that need to be worked out. It's hard to hold back when you really want the car but it can really pay off as ...
