The option to buy a new model doesn't have anything to do with maintenance issues after 3 years, which was your original statement. If you want to know if a new X5 model will come out, just track the current generation's production cycle. BMW production cycles run 7 years (except for the new 3 series that goes on sale in the U.S. next spring. That production cycle could be much longer ... Read More
The transmission on my 2006 X5 has been acting up since just ending warranty at 39,000 miles. BMW North America says too bad - pay the $7K for a new one. I bought the car as a demo, and thought I had until August this year for the warranty to expire. Turns out it expired in April. I started noticing some funky jerking in the transmission this year, but was not ... Read More
The way I view extra warranties, it's kind of like insurance. The only difference is you're not likely to total your BMW in regards to a warranty. The general perception is that you will be ahead by taking that $3,500 (or $4,500) and putting it in a bank account and then drawing out of that bank account to pay for repairs. Could you have something that needs to be repaired that ... Read More
I have a 2006 x5 4.4 and was having problems with the auto suspension level with the driver side being lower than the pass. My wife's 2006 X3 has been great, and one of the most enjoyable aspects is the ability to drive it more like a sports sedan than an SUV! Exactly; the X3 is no E30 M3, but it's much more entertaining to drive than most any other SUV- although I have to admit that I was very smitten by the X5 4.6is press loaner I drove for a couple of weeks back ... It might be the fan which was running. But why? It never happened to me before. Engine temperature was normal and weather was cold. After I re-started the engine and turned it off, the running was gone rightaway. I am not sure if it is normal. Steve, thank you for the reply.
Maybe it was just the radiator fan? Most of them are thermostatically controlled these days and will run (if needed) whether the motor is on or off.
It just happened once today. After I turned off the ignition and took the key out. I noticed something was still running under the hood. I waited a while and it kept running. I did not wait for it to stop. I put key in and started the engine again (I did check the engine temperature and it was normal.). Then turned it off. After this, I did not see anything ... Read More

I've leased a number of BMWs and have had a few X5s (currently own one). BMW FS is a good leaser. Check out their owners circle on bmwusa.com, you can link you lease into that account.
I put my 2003 530 (E39) in storage every winter and drive a 2001 X5 (4.4). I use a BMW (trickle) Charger which plugs into the 110v wall outlet and the 12v socket in the dash. After three winters of use, I have never had a dead battery and it always starts the first time in the sprine. I highly recommend this charger which I purchased from my BMW dealer. It ... Read More
Wow, there hasn't been much activity in the X5 discussion lately. Hi joegolfer1. Here's the information that you're looking for. If you were to lease a 2006 BMW X5 3.0 through BMW Financial Services right now for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, its buy rate lease money factor and residual value should be .00115 and 57%, respectively. Month 13, the Gloss Black with Terracotta interior 2005 BMW X3 (with nearly every option box checked) has now, just today, passed 20,000 miles. Been to the dealer for one oil change and twice (separate visits) for new windshield wiper blades. Probably by late this year, we'll put a new set of tires on the 18" sport wheels that came with the car. Love the car so much, we've signed up ... Read More
Good Day Everyone: I have the 2006 X5 4.4 for about 6 months now. Does anyone know why the 1st gear not accelerating at it top speed? When I at a fully stop, then step on gas, seems not moving well. But after about 3 seconds, it runs well on 2nd gear and on. Is it the problem with the 1st gear? or it needs a new updated firmware? Thanks William ... Read More
Just leased an '06 X3 black on black - love the car. My last car was a new black on black BMW 325i. Before that a new Jeep Wrangler. Before that a used black on tan '86 BMW 325es before that a used burgundy on tan BMW '78 320. I'm a single, straight guy. Is the X3 I just leased a "chick car?" I've read reviews that place it as a ... Read More
According to my dealer contact the 3.0 will soldier on at 225HP -- something about needing to wait for the 255HP X5 version to be "first" so that there is no "market confusion," as there must almost certainly be now what with the X3 3.0 when compared to the X5 3.0. The X5, particularly because of the dashboard, comes off as a "more premium and upscale" vehicle. Yet, with the dressier ... Read More

Hello tuthill. If you were to lease a 2006 BMW X5 4.4 through BMW Financial Services right now for up to 42 months, its buy rate lease money factor should be .00100 with the payment of a security deposit equivalent to your truck's monthly payment rounded up to the nearest $50 increment and .00115 without the security deposit. Hi gr8nrg. All banks that lease vehicles charge consumers a bank fee (also known as an acquisition fee). BMW Financial Services' base acquisition fee is currently $625. This money goes directly to BMW FS and your dealer does not profit from it or have tha ability to waive it. Well, technically they can waive it in exchange for an increase of .00035 in the money factor that is used to calculate ... Read More
Thanks kyfdx! I will post the selling price question in that forum. Can you tell what the lease payment would be on a 2006 X5 3.0, 36 months/36,000 miles. I plan to pay a security deposit of $625. MSRP of $51,000. Selling price of $47,500. Money factor of 0.0010(with security deposit) If possible, please include details of how this number is calculated. Thanks...AlexanderV2
Continuous improvements happen, er, continuously. Do not hold your breath for the 3.0 255HP engine in MY or CY 2006, my best guess. The X3 is "the new" body style -- third year is 2006. Although the painted bumpers, etc, are a pleasant trim update, I had hoped for a new dash replacing the coarse grained current version. The improvements are all the invisible ones for 2006 from what I can ... Read More
The X5 is, in several aspects and respects, er, the smaller X5. An issue with the current X3, X5 lineup is the somewhat perplexing size differential of several (many?) key metrics. In some respects the X5 is the smaller X3 then. Now price and actual weight of the vehicles of course does suggest (accurately) that the X3 IS the smaller of the two. The point in all that is to say, ... Read More
Hello : Looks like I'm about to bite the bullet and purchase my first BMW. Just made my last tuition payment for the kids, so now it's my turn. I like the 2006 X3. Haven't driven it yet, but from what I read, that won't be an issue. Everyone seems to like it. One thing I find odd ..... there's no security system. Even the cheap Toyota's have a security system. ... Read More
I bought a BMW X-5 instead of a Taureg specifically for the reason of maintenance. In order to maintain the VW properly, I have to take it to the dealer every 5000 miles for whatever the normal maintenance called for. I'd then be on the hook for maintenance bills, and car rental fee. BMW has a policy of "If it takes longer than an hour, we give you a loaner". Also, ... Read More
I am considering purchasing a 2006 X5 4.4 through performance delivery pickup in SC. Highland green/sand, dark poplar, premium, cold weather, rear climate. Do you feel BMW has worked out all the "kinks"? Would the redesigned 2007 model be an improvement although first year production? Dealers first quote was $56K. Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.
My 2006 X5 has Nav and Premium Sound. Do you know if the Icelink Plus will work here?
Ahhh, I see that you provided the additional information that I just asked for in your next post, otto91. A $3,000 discount on this truck is not bad. You are probably being asked to pay less than $1,000 over invoice for it. Let's estimate what its lease payment should be using BMW Financial Services' base lease program and see what we come up with. According to my calculations, if you were ... Read More
