Same problem here, no one has ever heard our hiccup, traveling for hoidays and it hiccups again then 10 min later we get the trans fail safe warning again. Did u find a fix?
I ordered an X5 on October 24th and only received the NAV credit for the deal. I did not qualify for the loyalty credit because I did not currently own my last BMW (must have owned within the last 12 months, even if it was a 2005 or later). With these new incentives for November, would it seem likely I should get the additional $1000 credit if I finance with BMW. ... Read More

Congratulations on getting your X5. I got my 2003 Certified pre-owned 325i back in 2005. The free maintenance was good till 2007. I extended it for two more years till 2009. The dealership in Orlando told me the same thing. While under the maintenance warranty, I didn't question it and had them do it. Next time, after the warranty expired, the front brake job price was $700 for pads and rotors, which sounded inflated. I had the trans failsafe message appear before. Shutdown and restart cleared it. That was over a year ago. Recently it started doing it more frequently. You need to take a long test drive in both vehicles and evaluate how you are going to use it. We cross-shopped the X3 and the Forrester in 2005 and decided on the BMW- but that's not to say that Subaru doesn't build some outstanding cars and SUVs. The X3 is no Wrangler or Defender 90, but it can handle light off-road work. I have driven our 2004 X3 2.5 through ... Read More
I don't mean to interrupt here, but isn't a brand new Lexus RX for the same price a better but than a old 05 or 06 bmw X5? It's your money if you wanted a new x5, then it would've been a different story, but an old unreliable bmw rather than a brand new lexus, your choice.
I do understand bmws handling. I've driven bmws best suv, which is the bmw X6, and I know how well it handles, but when your best friend works at a bmw dealer, and advises you not to buy it, that does put a doubt in your mind, doesn't it? Well, the RX2009 has big discounts, up to $9k from what I've heard, around $32k for a new 2009 rx.
yes - that is my dilemma. you would understand if you cared for bmw-handling. only a big discount like $11k under list for a brand new lexus rx could sway me and i tried to get that price and forego the X5, but couldn't. so back to square 1 looking for a used X5. the X5 is on the top of my list, but i just refuse to spend upwards of ... The factors that likely change from month to month are the money factor and any incentives/cashbacks towards a new vehicle. Note, this is model specific and only given if they want to ... Read More

At $1000 above invoice, the lease payments on the 2008 X5 you are considering would be $693 per month before taxes. I say $1000 per month, because that is a deal that can be had any day of the month at the dealership I purchased my X5 from. The market is just too soft for some dealers to justify not discounting that much
nj_bmw What I was/am saying is the best way to figure out the best deal is look at the MSRP of the car. Find the invoice price on Edmunds.com, then add $1000-$1500 to the price of the invoice. This should be your Cap Cost. Do not put any money down...only pay the upfront fees...And insist that they use a Money Factor of 0.0025 to calculate the lease. Whatever that monthly payment ... The invoice I saw on the dealer computer showed $57,810, and I got it for $58,890 before tax and reg. I think I got a decent deal...probably could have gotten a better deal if I didn't know the guy and ... Read More
Hello, I am considering the BMW X5 2005 for lease and have seen it advertised for $459/mo. with like $3800 total inception fees. I have also seen many other manufacturers offer Zero Down on many cars (like Jeep) for very low prices (i.e jeep wrangler - 188/mo., jeep grand cherokee - 259/mo.). My question is this....if these jeep and other manufacturers can offer zero down (sign and drive) and keep the ... Read More
I have just started my search for a 2005 X5 3.0. I live in city with one BMW dealer, hence negotiating is tough. Can anyone recommend a dealer known for dealing in the SE region of the US? I'm actually within 100 miles of the factory where these things are made, so it seems like I should be able to find a deal.
HI prem, sport, navigation, cold, xenon, self dimm, auto the dealer asking 0.0015 MF NOT 0.00125 he said thats the rate in california and also he mentioned the acq 800 and its fixed by BMW i read in this forum its about 625 is he making extra profit here? MSRP 53870 I Ofered 51000 679/month incluide tax 10k/36 he didnt agree!!! ahould i offer more or find some one else any help appreciated
Thanks for your comments. Understandably they wouldn't want you to say too much about the new X5. Can I ask you a question about the BMW alarm? (Actually I should have thought to ask you first rather than posting all over Townhall). I actually have a Mini but I believe the alarm is basically a BMW unit. My question is, if you park on an incline, or where the car is ... Read More
Ahh.. New York.. missed that part.. So, make the acquisition fee $900 instead of $625... (add $8/mo. to payment, and blame NY's vicarious liability laws). Tax is around 8.25% in NY? So, the adjusted payment of $554/mo. with tax becomes $599/mo. tax included.. When I said "lots of profit", I didn't mean they were getting rich off of you.. Just that the deal I proposed has a good possiblity of being ... Read More
This is a terrible deal.. Off the top of my head, it looks like they are selling you the car for MSRP.. And that is with the assumption that the payment includes sales tax.. BMW X5s are not exactly flying off the lots.. Here is what it should look like: $46,720 MSRP $44,220 Selling price ($2500 off.. still lots of profit left) $44,845 Cap cost (selling price + acq.fee) 3yr/30K lease ... Read More
You have to think about this , the X5 is now in it's fifth year of production, alot of improvements have been made over the years. Yes they are still using the same battery company, that they have been in the past years (this is the last year for them), and that issue will soon be gone. The brake and rotors are something you might want to ask about at your ... Read More

Hello, I would like to buy a CD changer from eBay and install it in my 2001 BMW X 5. What model number should I look for? How hard is it to install? What about upgrading the navigation system from a CD to a DVD? Thank you, Jim
On Friday, April 15, 2005, I received a report from the BMW dealership in reference to my wife's vehicle. I was told it was the front differential. A few hours later I was called by the BMW dealership who stated that the warranty company will not pay for damages caused by the driveshaft. I called the dealership back and explained to the service department that they told me it was a ... Read More
My wife purchased a 2001 BMW X5 3.0 in June of 2004 with approximately 44,000 miles still under manufacture's warranty. The vehicle was checked by BMW of Turnersville (New Jersey) for its routine check-up at approximately 49,000 miles. On Monday, April 11, 2005, approximately 5:00pm as she was pulling into the school to pick-up my daughter, the vehicle, as my wife describes, started to slow down and buck back and forth ... Call us obsessive complusive and fussy test drivers (my wife and me) -- but we did indeed test the X3 extensively over more than one visit to the dealer and we tested both manual and automatics, sport and non sport equipped versions (we ONLY tested 3.0 engine versions, however). We could not believe the difference between the stick and auto -- two completely different cars, with the stick the car drove ... Read More
Assuming the acquisition fee will be paid in cash and will not be part of the capitalized cost, your monthly pre-tax payment should be $512.71. Adding 8.75% tax brings it to $557.57. I was able to verify my BMW lease with my dealer to the penny. I don't know about Illinois doing it differently, perhaps kyfdx or Car_Man knows, but I sure wouldn't do a deal where I come up with ... Looking at buying a 3.0l X3 and wondering if anyone knows how the 4 wheel drive handles deep snow? Do the four wheels all drive at the same time when a wheel starts to spin? I bought CD changer from EBay for less than $400(BMW OEM brand new) and installed it myself. Finding prewired for CD player was little tricky (thanks for other Edmund members' advise!) but rest was easy. Hope this helps.
I recently purchased a 2005 X5 3.0 and along with other optional packages I opted for Navigation and did not realize that the standard CD player will be replaced by a cassette player. I'm looking for advice on how to get a CD player installed for a reasonable price. Do I have to purchase and get it installed from a BMW dealer? or can I buy it from stores like ... Read More
I just placed an order for a 2005 X5 3.0i, with premium package, rear climate package, automatic, and retractable load floor. My price $45191, which is $600 over invoice, destination charge, MACO, and TSF. I shopped for the car almost completely by e-mail. Mailed (and web-formed) my requirements to 10-ish dealers in a 100-mile radius area and asked for a quote. About half of the dealers responded, and all of them ... Read More
Designman - Nice well thought out post. I drove the X3 3.0 and indeed it is a nice vehicle. However I would like to point out the facts in the link you sent. The FX35 is .2 quicker to 60. it does lose in the qtr mile by .1 to the X3. The FX35 sport (which I have) has the same breaking and wheel/tire combo as the FX45. So that would ... Read More
I contacted the internet department of Irvine BMW in Orange County, Cali. to get a quote on a black on black X5 with automatic and moonroof. I'm ready to buy an X5 and I really want a Nav System. When I looked carefully on my test drive I discovered that the Nav has a cassette player behind it and there is no CD player in the vehicle.
