Anyone have advice on this: While driving on highway got "transfailsafe", 4x4 light, brake and ABS lights came on. When stopped car it stalled and when tried to start was "dead" - starter did not turn. Also made some chirping electronic sounds about one second apart. I have lost all power to the front passenger side door. No power to the door lock, window or outside mirror. The fuses are fine. The dealership took a quick look at it, but didn't find anything obvious. Does anyone have any ideas before I take it back to the dealer for a more thorough and expensive look? Thanks. Read More...

Slight correction. They are offering $1,750 off for current BMWFS customers (along with a 0.0003 reduction in the MF). If you're a current owner (and this would be my 3rd BMW in 4 years), but do not currently lease or finance through BMWFS, they have nothing for you. On my 2004 X5 3.0 the dashboard brake lining warning light is on. Also the engine warning light is on. I have made the repairs but now I want to reset the dashboard warning lights. Is that something I can do myself or do I have to take it to the BMW dealer for them to reset the warning lights? Does anybody know?? Read More...

My wife's 2004 X5 caught fire last week for what I believe to be the exact same reason. The front right turn-signal was stuck on and my wife said that she noticed a burning smell. She parked the car, and went into her office. Within 30 minutes, the underside of the dash was on fire. Fortunately, the fire dept. got to it before the fire spread. Sometime within the last ... Hi i have an x5 4.4i, 2004. I noticed a couple of days ago that the gas comsumption has significantly gotten worse, as i was using up almost a quarter of a tank in a day (around 30-40 miles of driving) and usually i can get like 400-450 from a tank. I ran the gamut - A4 Avants (wagon) - 2.0T, S4 -- the 2.0T is a nice little car, but underpowered. The S4 version is very fast for a wagon. Audi's are nice cars, with great interiors, but the handling is not as good as BMWs in my opinion. The lease packages are terrible too.
