Re: I won't repeat the post. . . [markcincinnati]

Apparently his 2004 BMW X5 uses disposable rotors. BMW dealers replace the rotors with each set of pads because in some cases the rotors will wear below their minimum thickness before a second set of pads is worn out. On my BMWs-including the tracked cars-I've always replaced the rotors at every other pad change with no problems whatsoever. We have had Audi's, BWW's and VW's -- and when the work is ... Read More

Apparently his 2004 BMW X5 uses disposable rotors. The total costs that were attributable to the brakes were over $800, he now informs me and the remaining charge was for an oil and filter change -- but the out of pocket at 54K miles was $900, he says. The amount for the brakes "exceeded" $800 -- he says he thinks the brake portion of the bill was "about $830 or $840." ... Read More

My friend has an X5 -- and loves it -- trouble free, thus far. At 54K miles it needed new FRONT brakes -- $900, standard, normal, routine expense. $900 for front brakes on an X5? That's ridiculous. Your friend gor hosed. Big time. I hope the Service Advisor kissed him and sent flowers the next day. My wife's E39 got new rotors, pads and parking brake shoes just before the PO ... Read More

So I had to tow the car to BMW. 5 mns latter they told me it was just the key not functioning properly!... So next time your car won't start, don't overlook the key and always have a spare ... Interesting. My Dad has an '04 X5 3.0iA that has been the absolute pinnacle of reliability. He has had the truck for just over 2 years and about 43,000 miles. It has been back to the dealer exactly 3 times: 17,000 miles -- 1st oil change 36,000 miles -- Inspection I service 41,000 miles -- Front Right Brake Caliper Seized. Front Brake pads and rotors replaced.

I bought a 2004 x5 3.0i in Dallas on 9-31-04. Options: Prem Pkge, Auto Trans, Rear Climate, Self Dim Mirrors, and Xenon. INVOICE - 44520 MSRP - 48,520 TMV - 46,725 I tried to reason that since this was an 04, that I should only pay Invoice price since in 3 months it was going to be a year old in book value. Advice sought on Lease terms

I am looking at a 2004 BMW X5 with a MSRP of approximately $49800. With excellent credit including a FICO score of 748, I was wondering what sort of money factor and residual value would be appropriate. I have in mind a 48 month lease with annual mileage of 12K with zero capital reduction. As far as I know, BMW is not offering any incentivized leasing programs. I'd appreciate any feedback. ... 2004 First Impressions

This is our second X5 3.0, our last was a 2001. We don't see the need for the 4.4 (or the spending the extra $10k for it). If we want that much power, there are quite a few cars we would rather have. So far, it seems very similar to the last one, although I think it rides a bit softer than the 2001 (both are std suspension). The new X ... Read More

X5 Navigation System

Well, I can speak from real experiance. We just took delivery of our 2004 w/ navigation and it is a cassette, not a CD behind the screen. 1. According to the 2004 brochures, the navigation system requires deletion of the in-dash CD player. Brochure is consistent with website. 2. From the experiences that I've had, I wouldn't rely on dealer assertions on any specs that you really care about. Along the same lines, before I order my '04 4.4, I wanted to be sure that the 2004s still have the "folding rear view mirrors", as indicated in the ... Read More

I getting conflicting information regarding the On-Board Nav for the 2004 X5. According to the BMWusa website, the Nav option comes with and in-dash cassette player and deletes the in-dash CD player. According to several dealerships that I've contacted, they insist that the 2004 X5 will have an in-dash CD player with the Nav option like the other BMW models. Which piece of information is more accurate? Thanks in advance for ... Read More

I believe Xenons are standard equipment on the 2004 X5 4.4. Go with the Navigation System. Nice toy. Forget the Premium Sound, it upgrades a substandard sound system to just barely adequate in my opinion. Your money is better spent on the Comfort Seats. The standard 4.4 rims are the style 74 star spoke alloys, I hope. I was researching a 2004 X5 4.4 with Premium, Sport, Rear Climate packages, and ... Read More
