I have an 2001 BMW X5 I am attempting to change the low beam bulb. It is on the Driver side, I have removed the three bolts that hold the AFI oil & the Coolant overflow. Thier looks to be a cover over the rear of the Bulb w/ a rubber boot & a wire running out of the boot. Do I need to remove the rear cover? The entire headlamp? Need a little direction... my 2001 X5 4.4 is now started to exhibit these symptons also. I foun d the recall email from 6/14/2001, I called the BMW hotline at 1800-831-1117 they said my VIn number was not involved in this recall. I purchased this vehicvle in April 2003. That a Long Island guy would schlep to Jersey to buy a car, but if you service them in the city then it doens't matter. My car is a 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH. I also have a 1990 E30 325iA. I have a 2001 X5 4.4i and have the same problem(failed oil seperator). My first broke down was in Jan 2008. I had a repair done and costed me $2200.00. I just bought an x5 and when I test drove it everything was fine. the day I picked it and drove it for about 10 mins, the car started jumping...and I mean crazy jumping in the back. Seems like the suspension is whack but it wasnt at all like that when I test drove it. I purchased a 2001 4.4i from the Atlanta Auto Auction in Jun 08. It only had 77K and seemed to be in good condition except for the cv boots needing replacing. I immediately bought an extended warranty from a BMW dealership. A couple of months later my X5 overheated due to a cut hose.
