Re: BMW X5...vs Land Cruiser? [bcb1]
Written by: kkelly2 on Mar 25, 2008 6:16:19 AM
In December we traded in our 2000 Landcruiser for a 2008 X5 3.0. If it were not for the > $70k price tag and the 3rd row that doesn't fold flat, I would have definitely gone for another Landcruiser. In the 8 years we had it, we never had one problem. But I wanted to upgrade safety features, get a nav and sat. radio and especially increase the mpg. Our search ... Read More

BMW X5...vs Land Cruiser?
Written by: bcb1 on Mar 25, 2008 5:23:41 AM
Sorry but there isn't much activity on the "regular" X5 forum (not since last December!), so I thought I might get an answer here. I've always owned large SUV's. My current one is a Yukon that I bought new in 2000 and has been very reliable and trouble-free, even with 150K miles on it. I'm itchy to buy a new (used) SUV and the X5 intrigues me. My wife drove one ... Read More

Re: MDX or X5? [anon3]
Written by: bmlexus on Mar 8, 2008 8:07:44 AM
In my personal experience as someone who has owned 5 X5s and 14 BMWs, I have had no significant reliability issues with any of my X5s (with the possible exception of the very first model year in 2000 when the E53 X5 was brand new to BMW.) After a year of driving the second generation E70 X5, it never went back to the shop except for scheduled maintenance, which of course ... Read More

Your assumption that Honda and Acura have better resale value than BMW is incorrect. Several surveys over the past few years, including JD Powers and Kelly Blue Book have ranked BMW at, or near, the top of the list for resale value. It depends on who conducted the survey and how they group vehicles into categories. But generally, BMW ranks higher than Honda/Acura for resale value. Recently, Infiniti has been hitting ... Re: May '07 Car and Driver Comparison [chrism124]
Written by: kkelly2 on Jan 9, 2008 9:05:35 AM
FWIW: I just went through the process myself - 2000 Landcruiser needed an upgrade. Because I need a 3rd row for carpooling choices were narrowed to MDX, XC90, Mercedes GL, X5 and Audi Q7. I would have gotten another Landcruiser in a second if it didn't cost $75k and look like a Highlander. Friends with the Volvo had the car in the shop all the time (3 actually turned in before ... Park Distance Control. Wife's X5 has it and we spent the weekend going in and out a parking garage and it is GREAT. Also good at spotting neighbor kids and our kid's toys. We drove 1300 miles in the X5 this weekend, seeing lots of rain. It was great to drive this rig. I'd like a tad more space, but this thing eats up the miles. We put a 9" TV/DVD ... Read More

2004 4.4 BMW X5
Written by: new_beemer on Oct 23, 2003 5:51:32 PM
Thanks for the replies. I havent' been able to find out what are the standard set of wheels on the 4.4 X5 (I know it comes with the all weather tires). BMW.com has a catalogue with showing some wheels but am not sure if its the european or the US model. I haven't really heard anything bad about the 2004. It seems like major issues were with the previous year models ... Read More

JACK , one more time please
Written by: blockislandguy on Apr 30, 2003 8:30:57 PM
Jack, if I read you right, it seems that the MY 2000 and 2001 are to be avoided. Further, if you buy a CPO you can 1) save the initial first year hit on depreciation and 2) get a longer warranty than on a brand new car that has not been exactly trouble free (at least initially). So, wouldn't the smart thing to do to buy a 2002 CPO and pass ... Read More

Hopeitsfriday, I noticed that you had considered both X5 and XC90 before choosing MDX and I was curious about your opinion on the BMW and Volvo. I have narrowed my pick between those two, by either getting the X5 slightly used (2000 or up) or a new T6 XC90. My biggest concern with X5 is the reliability, as I drive the car daily in my business, sometimes for hundreds of miles ... Read More

wwest - Hi Willard, long time no see! Actually the MDX now has stability control which was added in an attempt to correct for severe oversteer at the limit and also to catch up to marketing trends established by BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus. No doubt, however, that on any road, the X5 is dynamically superior to the MDX. wmquan - You're right, the MDX's side airbags still offer no head protection. ... Read More

X5 v. the 03 Discovery
Written by: polo2928b on Nov 10, 2002 7:17:18 AM
I own a 2000 528 and I love BWM engines, performance and everything BMW stands for, but the X5 feels like a poor job of what all BMW stand for, yes is probably the fastest SUV out on the market but that is all you get with the X5, So I opted for a Discovery 2003 with 217 HP. a V8, 4WD all the time, double transmission, leather, double cargo space ... You can go to the BMW website to figure out leasing options www.bmwusa.com My lease wasn't typical - I had a paid off 97 5 series I traded for my X. Got top dollar for the trade, got them down $1,500 off MSRP and I applied most of the trade to the lease, they stroked me a check for $6k and my total lease payment is only $206 a month 12k ... 2002/2003 X5 and Pricing
Written by: dzuba on Oct 29, 2002 11:26:17 AM
I'm curious, on new - what are people out there paying below MSRP? $1500, $2000, $500.00? Today I had a BMW rep offer to throw in the Spartenburg experience if I purchased new vs. CPO, as he has no CPO on the lot! Anyone done the Spart thing, and is it worth it? He flies me down, I do the thing, and drive my vehicle home!

Re: Lease Terms
Written by: jagzbimmer on May 12, 2002 11:56:01 AM
jcs10: Those lease figures sound sort of high. That is too much to spend on an X5 (or any reasonably priced car for that matter) If this is, in fact, the best deal you can find, it may be because X5's are at a premium right now. So, you might want to consider going less on the options, and perhaps look into the multiple security deposits program from BMW. Another option ... Read More

BMW X5 3.0 - experiences

I have a 2001 X5 3.0 purchased in Sept 2000. I didn't go for the sport package since as noted by some, it's bumpy on many city driving situations. I found the non-sport package to be more comfortable all the way around and with AWD and the BMW suspention magic you can still drive this car very hard.
