EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:
Overall
Long on style and short on interior volume, the BMW X3 is hardly more versatile than a 3 Series sedan when it comes to carrying people and cargo. But if you're merely after a higher seating position, it'll get the job done.
DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS
Dynamics
The lineup has been simplified to a single model called the "X3 3.0si" equipped with the latest generation of BMW's 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder engine. In this application, it makes 260 horsepower. With the sport package, the X3 can be entertaining.
Comfort
Ride is best described as stiff, especially with the sport package. Interior space is generous.
Function
Has a lot of features, but the numerous buttons on the dash make adjusting the audio and HVAC a bit of a learning experience.
Design/Build Quality
Looks like a BMW first and an SUV second. The interior is handsome, and materials have been revised for 2007. Front and rear ends have also been restyled.
Image Enhancer
Prominent BMW badge.
Luxurious
Plenty of features, including headrest-mounted video screens.
Cargo Hauler
Not much capacity for an SUV.
