What I CAN say, for fact, is that my wife and I have been very happy with both of our X3 purchases. For an all-weather all-wheel drive SUV, you can't beat the steering, handling, and braking feel of our 2006 X3. It still feels tight as a drum, and it has been trouble-free. Everything about it provides us with a safe and secure feeling, including the capability of quickly maneuvering and ... Read More

Exactly -- Discussion forums such as this attract more posts from people who have complaints or concerns about their car. On the other hand, we are now on my wife's second CPO X3. The first one was a 2004 3.0i model, and now we have a 2006 model. Before we purchased it last spring, I did my research..., and yes, I was a little nervous about buying a 2007 model, due ... Never looked at the Subaru (which looks strange to me but gets great reviews) but it's funny as I see the X3 as a tough, mid-sized utilitarian car. Pricey in its range but not over the top so. It isn't a cream puff and pretty ascetic inside and out except for the amazing four piece pano roof. It is a zippy suburban car though and not meant to be taken off ... Read More

In X3's from 2006 and earlier, it is INCREDIBLY easy to tell whether the seats are vinyl or leather. It doesn't take a "close" inspection. There's a "stripe" of very obvious vinyl fabric in the center of both front seats. They're just plain ugly. In 2007, BMW solved that aesthetic problem.

On the surface, that does seem like a very good price for a 2006 X3. Just a couple small points: 1) If you know the last 8 digits of the VIN, a BMW service advisor should be able to give you service/repair history for that X3. 2) While I was shopping for a used X3 a few months ago, one dealer (not a BMW dealer) advertised "leather" seats on their 2005 ... Any tips on negotiating or suggestions? Go to www.bmwusa.com and do a search for CPO X3s in your area. That should give you a rough idea of whether the price is in the ballpark. FYI, CPO certification adds @$1000 to the price. Make sure that you take an extended test drive, some folks(not me) find the sport suspension calibration a bit too hard-core.

I think the payment is too high. First, it seems folks are getting a discount of about $2,000 to 2,500 on the X3 now, depending on competition in the area. With all those options, which often have higher mark-ups, a $1,620 reduction to determine base rate cap cost seems a little stingy.
