I recently purchased a 2006 BMW X3 at the end of September. The dealer I purchased it from went out of business about 2 weeks after I bought it... so lots of sketchyness with that entire situation that I won't get into... Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I had a couple problems with starting the car. The first time, it took me about 4 tries before the car finally started (it ... Read More

Exactly; the X3 is no E30 M3, but it's much more entertaining to drive than most any other SUV- although I have to admit that I was very smitten by the X5 4.6is press loaner I drove for a couple of weeks back ... Unless my math is wrong, the maintenance and repair costs for a 2010 X3 will run you .06 cents a mile over 5 years/75,000 miles. .067 if you drag the decimal points out a bit. Almost all bad reviews were on the original 2004~2006 models when equipped with sport package. From 2007 the ride was smoothed greatly, and without the sport package the car is still very firm, but is not in any way bouncy. There is no comparison between an X3 and a Lexus RX. Its like ... This problem was also common in the earlier E36 models, but they re-occurred in the E46 models from 1999 to 2006. The X3 is interesting, but it seems there is less support offered by the importer, and more reliance on dealers for resolution than with other brands. This seems to be a trend with most Euro importers, btw. Do BMW owners find that to be true, or am I misreading the posts? Also, have any 2007 owners run across the body panel creaking that cropped up in the X3's 2006 forums?
