Re: Order Cutoff Date? [bodble2]
If possible take a test drive of two X3's one with and one without Servotronic. I have read some of the reviews of some of the OTHER BMW's with the Servotronic steering -- I know what you mean. Here is one immediate difference that you can feel: The road feel improves with speed with the Servotronic steering. The degree of effort to turn the wheel at very low speeds ... Read More...
Re: Order Cutoff Date? [analyzer]
We ordered a 6spd manual X3 at the end of March 2005. It took 7 weeks to come in. If the timetable remains about the same, you probably have another 2 weeks or so to order a 2006. If you wait until May, my bet would be, however, that the car would probably be an '07. The dealer should know the dates for the MY's. We negotiated EVERYTHING when we ordered the car. Down payment ... Read More...

Our 8+ month old 2005 BMW X3 is one of my wife's favorite cars EVER (and she and I combined since 1977 have had 28 Audis and 2 BMW's -- take a deep breath that did include several company cars that were Audis.) She got the 3.0 with the 6spd manual and Premium Sport Cold Weather Sound system upgrade Bi Xenons Servotronic Sat Nav Sirius Chrome tail pipe extensions In car ... Read More...
Re: 6-Speed On Lot [timmboj]
We ordered our 2005 3.0 X3 with virtually every possible option AND the 6spd. The deal on ordered cars will be NOT one penny worse and according to the dealers (Audi and BMW) can more often than not be better than an inventoried item. Why? The profit margin on an ordered car CAN be better for at least one reason and sometimes more. For example, regardless of the source ... Read More...
Re: 2007 News [timmboj]
Continuous improvements happen, er, continuously. Do not hold your breath for the 3.0 255HP engine in MY or CY 2006, my best guess. The X3 is "the new" body style -- third year is 2006. Although the painted bumpers, etc, are a pleasant trim update, I had hoped for a new dash replacing the coarse grained current version. The improvements are all the invisible ones ... Read More...
Re: 2005 X3 3.0 lease in CA
Hi sailorstac. $500 over invoice is a good deal on this car. As far as the acquisition fee goes, you can either pay it at lease signing or have it added to your truck's capitalized cost and baked into your monthly payment. BMW Financial Services is not currently offering 39 month leases on this model, so you will have to go with a 36 month term. If you were to lease a 2006 ... Read More...
Re: 6 speed manual vs 5 speed steptronic [tominnva]
We test drove the then 2.5 and 3.0 X3 with automatics (late March 2005.) Then one day the phone rang, the BMW sales rep said she had one to drive that had the two things we wanted to test: manual transmission and sport package. Night and brilliant day difference. The BMW automatic like so many other intelligent autos has a propensity to upshift early and downshift ... Read More...
Re: First scheduled service: what is generally done? [div2]
Our dealer said "use Castrol, not Mobil1" -- "use Mobil1 only if you can't find Castrol." Why? Dealer said BMW uses Castrol "exclusively" and there is no reason to mix additive packages -- no harm, in a pinch, in doing so though. At 12,000 miles, the X3 3.0 (2005) needed a "pint" literally a pint of oil. Drove all over the place trying to find Castrol, figured I'd "settle" ... Read More...

Re: Should I buy a bmw 3x? Please advise. [needyouradvice]
Added one pint of oil in 13,000 miles. Had the wiper blades replaced (no charge) at 10,000 miles. Increased the inflation in the tires to make the handling just a smidge sharper. Have had NO problems, no reliability issues. We have a 2005 X3 3.0 6spd with Premium, Sport, Cold Weather packages -- we added about $11,000 worth of options in total to an MSRP just under ...
