I've owned nine BMWs since 1983, and I currently have three in my garage. If you use a good dealer and/or a good independent BMW tech your running costs wont be bad at all. I have a 2004 X3 2.5 with 85,500 miles and non-scheduled maintenance has consisted of a passenger SRS sensor(warranty), one set of tires at 50,000 miles, and one set of brakes at 60,000 miles. The 06 does not have the 6-speed GM6 Automatic Transmission. I do not know how the ride compares to the 2009 as I have not been able to find anything that says what BMW fixed if anything from the original 2004 model. Read More...

What I CAN say, for fact, is that my wife and I have been very happy with both of our X3 purchases. For an all-weather all-wheel drive SUV, you can't beat the steering, handling, and braking feel of our 2006 X3. It still feels tight as a drum, and it has been trouble-free. Exactly -- Discussion forums such as this attract more posts from people who have complaints or concerns about their car. On the other hand, we are now on my wife's second CPO X3. Why do you care? I think I am going to start a blog about my experiences with the BMW X3. Every time I come home in a jostling, rocking, rolling car I will voice my opinion. It is a bit of harmless venting but it is also the other side of the spectrum from the glossy brochure, advertising 0.99% financing that is everywhere. X3: worst ride ever. It bounces and jolts and sends things flying in the cabin on regular roads. I will put the BMW X3 up as the absolutely, positively worst riding car I have ever ridden in or driven. It is a CHUCK WAGON of a ride. It is not a sporty ride, it is a CHUCK WAGON.
