2013 BMW X1 sDrive28i 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
We just took delivery of our Valencia Orange X135 M Sport with all the options.
What a car!!
After driving a few of the competitors, the choice was clear once we drove the X1.
There is nothing like a BMW, and this one is solid.
The layout of the interior is very nice, seats are comfortable, visibility is good, and the Harmon-Kardon sound system is awesome.
You will never think of this car as an SUV when it comes to driving dynamics.
Despite the slightly higher ride height, you may as well be driving a BMW sedan with the older, better, hydraulic steering setup.
Also, this car is an amazing value, coming in nearly fully loaded under 50 grand.

Gas mileage could be a bit better, but I don't like the start-stop feature available on other models anyway.

That is about as loaded as one gets.
You can get into a very nice one (base s28i) for well less than $40K list, possibly $35K negotiated price before TT&L or less.
Large components of that gap are the upgrades to the x35i with the 6 cylinder engine and xDrive (AWD).
The turbo 4 cylinder in the 28i is going to outperform almost anything else in a crossover SUV, and adding the 35i makes it almost unfair - which is why I bought one ;-).
So the s28i without a bunch of expensive options is much more affordable but still noticeably more than the closest competitors you could find from Honda, Toyota, Detroit, etc.
It may be the least expensive BMW platform in the US, but it is still a BMW - with the good and the bad that comes with it.
