2006 BMW M6 2dr Coupe (5.0L 10cyl 7AM)

Review

My interlagos blue M6 is by far the best car I've ever owned. It's truly a drivers car and I enjoy taking it for all sorts of rides (fast and slow!).

Best Features

500HP!

Worst Features

Better gas mileage...

2006 BMW M6 2dr Coupe (5.0L 10cyl 7AM)

Review

This car is powerful and fun with only 400 hp, but after you break it in and let loose all 507 hp, it is a beast. While the SMG is new and initially awkward at first, I now have fallen in love with the paddle shifting method and wish all my cars had it.

Best Features

I think the HUD is great for situational awareness. The voice control iDrive system is wonderful. iDrive is great unless you are one of those who are afraid of computers... I love it!

Worst Features

Better gas mileage, but with the huge demand for fuel with this powerplant, it's not much of a complaint. What kind of mileage do you expect for 507 horses? Pirelli P Zero Corsa's instead of the Continentals... Lose the amber turn signals and go for clear ones. Higher quality paint.

Review

At its most sedate settings in freeway trafic, the M6 is so comfortable that my passenger falls asleep almost immediately. Then, without realizing it, I exceed a pre-set speed (90 mph in this case) and set off a loud chime. This car wants to fly. Push a few buttons to adjust horsepower, transmission, suspension and steering and the highway cruiser becomes a taut road-hugging muscle car that makes challenging roads seem way too easy. Almost everything is software controlled and adjustable. Much of it by voice command in case you are too busy driving to push buttons. More good news. The EPA predicts 12-18 mpg. My M6 averages 18.5 mpg overall with one 800 mile road trip yielding 19.5 mpg.

Review

A pleasure to drive. The automatic transmission seems sluggish. Using the paddle shifts improves performance significantly. The heads-up display, which includes not only speed, shift spectrum and gear, but also the cruise control information. Gas mileage is less than EPA figues, my onboard computer calculates it at about 9 miles per gallon around town.

Best Features

The heads-up display and full Merino leather make for a luxurious ride. The iDrive system is much improved over my 2003 745Li. Comfort access is awesome. I've never taken the key out of my pocket!

Worst Features

Have the steering wheel lift up and away from the seat when entering the vehicle and it is pretty tight, especially with the high sided back on the sport seats.
