  • M5 Price

Hello M5 Owners, This is shameful but I admit that I cannot afford a M5 that is newer than 4 years old. Even when a 4 years old M5, the avg price is still in the $30K - $40k range. However, I see some of the unbelieveably low M5 prices listed in Yahoo autos. Their prices are range from $16K - $30K for 2001 - 2003 models and all the sellers ... Read More

I kinda figured how those tests would come out, Mercedes just isn't going to deviate from the straight-line stability theme long enough or loosen the grip of their safety systems to match those other cars once the road starts to twist. What I am impressed with is Audi. I never thought I'd see the day C&D would rank an Audi over a BMW. Auto, Motor und Sport also picked the S4 ... Read More

  • BMW M5 Leather

I recently rode in a friend's 2001 M5. It was black with an unusual leather interior. It sort of had the coloring and texture of a baseball glove. A bit more orange than most of the palomino or tan leathers that I have ever seen. Do any of you know what the name of this leather might be?

  • Musings from an S4 owner...

I own a 2001 6-spd S4 (in Nogaro Blue w/alcantara 2-tone seats). I chose it over the BMW 330 Ci and the '99 M3 (the new E46 M3's weren't out yet). The buying decision involved with this car illustrates well the problem with Audi and my attitude toward the RS6. I found the car's ride to be softer than BMW, so I figured it would be more comfortable in city driving ... Read More

New 2001 M5's are available in the Chicago area. Two dealers had them on the floor One wanted $8-10K over MSRP. At the second dealer, I got the car for $3k over. They accept orders and said expect a 6-8 month wait. But, they want $5k over on an order. Also, I think they want the car to stay in the area for service revenue. I had an order for an ... Read More

  • Mercedes E55

I've been a long time fan of BMW sedans but just made the jump to Mercedes with the ordering of a 2001 E55. This car replaces my 89 BMW 535i and 87 Porsche 911 turbo. I was talked out of the BMW M5 by my German counterpart (Guido Frensemeyer, Mov'it) who sees XJR's, M5's and E55's on a regular basis coming in for brake upgrades. The M5 in Europe is having ... Words from a BMW engineer. That is where I received the info on the performance of the 2001 M3. The M3 is the "touring car". Smaller, lighter, and better HP-to-weight ratio. Just depends on what gearing the car winds up with. Normally BMW balances the 0 - 60MPH with incredible 50 to 100 MPH acceleration. Also, I do not know if they will actually do it, however it is rumored that ... Read More

I realize this is a month old, but definitely can tell you the Colorado post is correct. Right now the brokers who handle all the high demand hard to get autos are selling the M5 for 10K to 14K OVER list. This is common on first year limited production cars like Vipers, NSX's, Porshe Turbos, etc. The first to have must pay the price. I put my name on the list ... Read More
