BMW M3 Maintenance and Repair

I'm always glad to help a fellow BMW owner! A limited-slip or locking differential will supply power to the wheel(s) that have the best traction. A diff without a limited slip or locking mechanism will feed all the power to the wheel that has no traction. Your car has a very sophisticated LSD called the M differential lock. The best way to find out what is going on is to leave ... Read More

  • 2005 bmw m3 problems?

    Written by: nickyc1974 on Jan 13, 2009 9:45:11 AM

I am thinking about buying a 2005 BMW M3 fully loaded with navigation with 48,100 miles. I was wondering if there are any known reported repair problems with this vehicle? The 2008 Consumer Reports Buying Guide saids it is a used vevicle that should be avoided. It reports transmission, electrical, power and suspension problems, but most of my internet research for the most part does not state anything like this.

Our first full test of the $53,000, all-wheel-drive 2008 Audi S5 was a bit of a revelation. With a 354-horsepower version of Audi's direct-injection 4.2-liter V8 under its hood, the voluptuous Audi S5 ran a 13.3-second quarter-mile at 104 mph, just 0.1 second and 2 mph shy of the 420-hp 2007 Audi RS4 sedan. What's more, the S5's slalom speed is within a couple mph of the harsh-riding RS-spec sedan. "It ... Read More

I'm considering a M3 sedan for my family hack. With the DCG my wife can drive it and I can still hit the track with it from time to time. I'm guesstimating that my MSRP would be a tick over $60K as the lower base price of the sedan will partially offset the cost of the DCG. The thing is, I consider the latest M3 to be much closer in spirit ... Read More

I'll try to conclude the above evolution of thought, that will no doubt still go on for whatever reason makes an auto enthusiast tick, by asking the following: How could all these great auto manufacturers, all’of’em I say; F up royally in one way or another??? There were so many this time! How could the M division diverge away from the ideal I thought they knew best?? Instead of a driver's ... Read More

I know, the title sounds like nonsense. I mean, just look at what the industry has pumped out of its design rooms for 2008! We've got BMW's E92 M3 and 335i, Lexus' ISF, Merc's C63 AMG, Audi's RS4/S4/&S5, Mitshibish's Evolution X, Suburu's new WRX, Nissan's GTR supercar outta nowhere, up to Porsche's 997 line up including the new GT2, Ferrari's Scuderia.. and it goes on. All of'em boosted up the wazoo ... Read More

Well a couple off the top of my head is the 2009' Cadillac CTS-V, 2008' Mitsubishi Lancer EVO-X, 2008' BMW M3, Acura TL Type-S and/or the new 09' SH-AWD TL, Audi S4 & S6, Mercedes C63 AMG model, Volvo S60R, Lincoln is suppose to come out with a SVT tuned MKZ in a couple of years. It's a tie between the MKZ and G35 as best interiors. I'd give the edge to the MKZ though. Where's the Audi, interior ? Well some of us don't want to go blinde. :P The CTS-V, IMHO is the benchmark of the performance oriented sedans and in 2008' I believe the new CTS will be very competitive if not class leading against the competition such as the IS 350, 335i, G35, ... Looks DO matter, in addition to athletics. I fear the two big show stoppers for me and alot of people will be based on looks and weight. I like the red pic here. It's phat and actually.. kinda fat too. I think the bulging hood and rear fenders are a bit too protruding. I really don't like the side mirror light idea. Leave that for Mercedes. This pic seems to be ... Read More

yeah the one on those cars now is not as refined. i was reading alot of questions posted earlyer in the first pages and i'd like to take the opportunity to set the record straight about the new m3. it will not be a m4 as some suggest, but rather a 4 door m3 like the e36 body style 4 door m3. bmw has hinted that they might do a coupe version, but 4 you coupe lovers BMW has said that the ... Been reading several of your posts around, exciting reading. I don't think the I6 is finished at BMW just yet. As you probably know the M Roadster and M Coupe, both based on the Z4 just got the I6 from the M3.....but there is the 1-Series to think about. BMW said that they'd never build a M version of the Z4 and now here it is. In short I expect a ... Read More

He launched in a speech praising the SMG but he said that manual would not be an option. That is NOT cool. I've been seriously considering buying an M3 at some point, but I've been waiting for a V8 version. That was one of the reasons why I chose the S4 over the current M3 when I bought my '06 S4 about 3 months ago. That V8 growls, especially when it's ... Read More

Is 2008 really the estimate for the next M3 to come out? That's what Motortrend has listed anyways. Engine-wise they hint at a V8 this time, producing around 400hp. I can't see BMW using a V8 in this car personally. Motortrend reasoning was a V8 version of the new V10 going in the M5. Either way, I'd expect prices to soar farther up?
