Wow!!! This car is unbelievable. I have owned over 100 cars most of which are special interest. This is hands down the most fun and thrilling to drive. The power at acceleration is mind boggling - it throws you back in the seat and there is no hesitation or lag when you put the pedal to the medal. I never really buy cars to keep for a long time but if I ever sold this M roadster it would only be to buy another one. I absolutely love it. Any car nut who has a chance to drive one will buy one. This car is the best kept performance car secret on earth.

Review

The '98 model was the first year for the M version of the Z3 and has the S52 engine with 240 bhp and about 238 ft lbs of torque. Combine this power with a tuned suspension and a mere 3000 lbs of empty weight, and you have the definition of 'pocket rocket.' While the later 2001/2002 model year versions of the (Z3) M Roadster had a more powerful (and more complicated to maintain) engine rated at 315 bhp, the additional HP is pretty much useless on American roads and highways, unless you just liked having your neck snapped back from standing starts, that is. The M Roadster has a lower and more aggressive stance than the Z3, and it's a head turner. The M Roadster just plain ROCKS.

Favorite Features

The power. The appearance. The handling. These cars are a deal now on the used market and will surely gain value as time passes. The FUN of driving the thing!

Suggested Improvements

The Z3 M Roadster is no longer in production, but it could have used a padded center armrest and longer gearing. Neither one of these should be a deal breaker to owning one of these, though. BMW service/maintenance costs are notoriously high. Find a good independent repair shop for service work.

My M absolutely scares me it handles so well and the acceleration in 6 cyclinder is unbelievable.

This car is fun to drive. It is a blast. The handling is terrific, acceleration is WOW. It is my wife's car and fortunately she goes out of town occasionally and I get to drive it. It has been in for electric seat trouble, the motor burned out and is welded to the frame, so the whole seat frame has to be replaced. The air conditioner has a hole in the evaporator canister (not sure if right term). Costs 1,100 to fix. An oxygen sensor had to be replaced. The seats dont fit tight as a result they shift slightly when cornering.

Favorite Features

I am six eight so I can only drive it with the top down. It accelerates like mad. The radio gets louder as the wind noise increases. It gets looks, even after five years.

Suggested Improvements

make the thing so it isn't so expensive to work on, ie, don't wield a motor to the seat frame!!! of course, make it to fit a six eight, 250lb guy.

Needed a fun 2 seat luxury sport convertible and the M Roadster Fulfills all needs. Complete Package Looks, Power, and fun to Drive. What i like most is when other drivers don't see the M Badge and think they can blow me away..HA I leave them in the dust.

Engine, Wheels, Looks from the ladies!!

Suggested Improvements

Definitely could benefit from rear glass window. I do have the optional Hard top that does have rear defrost feature.
