I agree $4k is pretty much rape, but, if you're unfamiliar with the situation in CA right now vis-a-vis auto extended warranties, then let me just sum it up by saying as of July 1, 2004, It Sucks. I'm not going to be very helpful here, but.... If you are buying a car that requires a $4000 warranty, you are just asking for trouble.. I'm not saying that a 740i doesn't require a warranty (it definitely does), but the price should be a tipoff that you won't have a really happy experience with that car.. 3rd party warranty companies are always iffy.. Why did they do this? They were not stagnating. Or, at least very, very few were saying that they were stagnating. The 2001-2003 530i is still one of the best BMWs ever made. No - not if Lexus gave it a S8 like bumpy ride. The fact that 200 of them sold tells you there was virtually no one who wanted the car. Let's see if Audi can sell 200 V12's in a year. Cars that sell that low in volume would be dismissed as aberrations and not part of a standard list of offerings by many who keep track of records. I don't get it when you talk about all these engines and platform options. MB's S had two engines in the affordable range for their base cars - a 275HP and a 303 HP when I shopped in 2001. The LS had one engine, the 290HP. The A8 had one engine, a 310 HP and they had just discontinued the SWB edition because they sold less than 500 of these in the two preceeding years in the ... My basic point with you is that there is no way everyone is into the business side like you are, otherwise Mercedes, Audi, VW, Chrysler or Nissan back when they were dying would have ever sold a car.
