BMW 7-Series Prices Paid and Buying Experience

Re: Extended Wty for 2001 740i?? [kyfdx]

kyfdx- Thanks for the input. I agree $4k is pretty much rape, but, if you're unfamiliar with the situation in CA right now vis-a-vis auto extended warranties, then let me just sum it up by saying as of July 1, 2004, It Sucks. Very few, and I mean hardly ANY companies will sell individual policies in CA due to the taxes and surcharges that the CA insurance commissioner ... Read More...

Re: Extended Wty for 2001 740i?? [brm49]

I'm not going to be very helpful here, but.... If you are buying a car that requires a $4000 warranty, you are just asking for trouble.. I'm not saying that a 740i doesn't require a warranty (it definitely does), but the price should be a tipoff that you won't have a really happy experience with that car.. 3rd party warranty companies are always iffy.. Call around ... Read More...

Extended Wty for 2001 740i??

In advance I'm sorry for length of msg, but just trying to provide background: We're very close to buying a 2001 740i Sport, 59K miles...to the best of my research, it appears to be clean title, 1-owner CA car, very good mech shape, etc. We would be buying it from a small wholsale operation that does have a very good reputation for both their sales and servicing of ... Re: [syswei]

"What has MB done for the industry in the last 15 years?...Yes, MB has managed to do more here in 120 years than Lexus has in 15. " You must have been living under a rock for the last 15 years. Even if we disregard countless Mercedes innovations and only include those introduced since 1989 Mercedes STILL trumps Lexus by a wide margin. Virtually every safety feature ... Read More...

Good, Bad or Ugly - Current and Future styling trends of BMW

new BMWs are hideous

Why did they do this? They were not stagnating. Or, at least very, very few were saying that they were stagnating. The 2001-2003 530i is still one of the best BMWs ever made. I HATE the interior of the new 5 series. Not even the $85,000+ M5 has a decent interior. The grey plastic around the Shift-My-Gears knob screams cheap. The new M5 doesn't even have four-piston ... Re: [denaliinpa]

No - not if Lexus gave it a S8 like bumpy ride. The fact that 200 of them sold tells you there was virtually no one who wanted the car. Let's see if Audi can sell 200 V12's in a year. Cars that sell that low in volume would be dismissed as aberrations and not part of a standard list of offerings by many who keep track of records. They would fall into the miscellaneous grouping. ... Read More...

Re: Audi/BMW/MB [denaliinpa]

I don't get it when you talk about all these engines and platform options. MB's S had two engines in the affordable range for their base cars - a 275HP and a 303 HP when I shopped in 2001. The LS had one engine, the 290HP. The A8 had one engine, a 310 HP and they had just discontinued the SWB edition because they sold less than 500 of these in the two preceeding years in the ... My basic point with you is that there is no way everyone is into the business side like you are, otherwise Mercedes, Audi, VW, Chrysler or Nissan back when they were dying would have ever sold a car. Just because you yourself read these things doesn't mean everyone else does. Secondly what "loss of momentum" are you talking about as far as Mercedes here in the U.S? ... Read More...

740i Sunroof Question

I own a 2001, 740i , which currently has 60K miles. Purchased as a Certified Pre-owned when it had 42K miles. The car has been great, no significant problems to speak of, except for one nagging item -- it appears to have what I would consider to be an excessive level of wind-noise coming from the sunroof area when the sunroof itself is closed, and the "sunroof panel" ... I am re-visiting the link provided by Merc1 re the 2006 7-series http://www.germancarfans.com/news.cfm/newsid/2050127.007/page/1/l- ang/eng/bmw/1.html   and providing a couple excerpts that are just too funny to ignore:   BMW’s iDrive control concept, the ergonomically sensible combination of single-button control and display monitor ...
