Review

Superb balance between athleticism, comfort and style. One of the few European luxury/performance sedans where adults can sit in the back seat without my having to move front seat up, or apologize profusely. And even Consumer Reports musters respect for its build quality and reliability.

Favorite Features

Cavernous interior, ample power, communicative steering, suspension hits perfect balance between comfort and performance. Exterior lines are graceful and athletic; puts the next generation 745Li to shame.

Suggested Improvements

Combined nav system, radio control screen are unintuitive and needlessly complicated (but face it, I-Drive is worse). CD player should be in dash.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A CAR THAT JUST HUGS THE ROAD LIKE IT IS ANGRY AT IT...WHAT A MACHINE...THE NEW STYLE IS A COMPLETE DEBACLE OF CRAFTMANSHIP, BUT IF THEY WOULD HAVE LEARNED NOT TO MESS WITH PERFECTION...GO OUT AND GET A 2001 WHILE THEY ARE STILL AROUND..UNBELIEVABLE CAR

TAKING TURNS AT 85 MILES PER HOUR AND HAVING THE CAR SAY "MORE DAMN IT MORE!"

I have had for only two months and I can't believe the overall quality and the ride experience. I probably will never drive any car other than a BMW for the rest of my life.

Favorite Features

Quality sound system, power, beautiful exterior look, room, heated seats and steering wheel,seat comfort.

Suggested Improvements

Better cup holders. CD changer out of trunk and into dash.

Review

The 2001 BMW 740i I purchased in August 2001 changed my life. Driving anywhere is a sensual experience. I deliberately take a longer route to work in the morning. Whenever I have to drive any other car I feel like I am driving dead weight, not to mention that I feel very uncool in it. The Sport Package is an absolute MUST!!! The 18" M-parallel spoke wheels are gorgeous, and the lowered front suspension gives the car an aggressive, athletic posture. Sport mode transmission option makes this car a rocket.

Too good to be true?

This machine is truly beautiful(sports package 2001 740il-black on black). Had it in the shop quite a bit for how much paid for. Warranty covered everything. Fun to drive and everyone looks at it. In the snow not so good.

Body style blows 2002-newer away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Great performance.

Suggested Improvements

Navigation system is outdated and not detailed enough. Thank god for warranty or could be $$$$$$$$$. Will sell this spring before warranty exits!

Tough Love

I have owned BMW's, Audi's and Mercedes so when I picked up my new 740il I was excited. Two weeks later, I returned it to the dealer to find out they did not install the "black box" for the phone. While a little slow off the line, it cruises extremely well. The cornering ability was supposed to be legendary.After three complaints and shop visits, my front tires were worn and the front end was noisy. It turns out the dealer had left the shipping spacers in the front and rear suspension. Mind you, it took three visits and 14,000 miles to correct this. Not a good track record for a premier automobile.

Integrated phone system and ease of controls.

Better Quality Assurance at the dealer prior to delivering the car.

This car is truly the ultimate driving machine. It's a full size sedan that handles like sports car. It sure footness and accerlation not only makes it safe but fun to drive. THis is one car I always look forward to driving.

Favorite Features

Nav system, hands-free phone/voice activated, computer, heated seats, moon roof, the sexy lines, leather interior & wood accent, maintenace service, sport wheels.

None that I can think of.

wow!!this car has so far been a pleasure to own and drive.by far the most ultimate bmw in recent years.had a chance to buy a 2002 745i but instead chose 2001 7401.just as fun to drive as a 2002 745i but much better looking than the 745i.have received compliments many times by total strangers.great car period.

Review

Significant improvements over pre-99 models make the 2001 is the best 7 series period (2002 and on are ugly junk). Besides being the ultimate luxury and performance sedan, this car is a joy to drive and own. It's as agile as most mid-size cars with absolutely unlimited power reserves . All the possible options are included, and the engine feel significantly torquier than 1998 models. The 18" wheels are great looking and stick the car to the pavement like glue.

Favorite Features

The artwork quality sculpted body of a black 7 series.

Can the ugly marshmalow and bring back the real 7.
