I am attracted to Volvo for ride comfort, ease of entry and exit, space (family of four) and a dash of driving fun. Too much to ask? Why do people buy a Volvo nowadays when all cars are equally safe? It is a 2006 525xi with manual transmission. It has 34000miles on the clock. The carfax report is clean. The dealer asked for $25000, and I offered $22000 and I expect a counter offer. Sandee... seems a little on the high side for a 525 without all wheel drive and mileage on the high side for a 2007 but we all seem to end up paying a little too much, IMO. I think it is easier said than done to find a clean CPO with the color combo we like or can live with, so don't fret, just enjoy the car. Driving a BMW is a beautiful experience. When I got my brand new BMW 535 2006 model from a dealer, the "front" car didn't have a place to hang the license plate. The dealer told me "if the front car doesn't have the place to hold the license plate, then it doesn't require by law. I have to admit I was questioning why people lease also, but as I really compared buying a 2006 or 2007 5 series to a lease, the lease seemed better and better. My lease offer was for a 2010 528 3 years/36k miles for $650 a month including CA sales tax or $23,400 over the term. BWM refuses to acknowledge that their rims are defective and crack as a result of normal driving, especially their 18 inch rims when coupled with run-flat tires. We have a 2006 530i with standard 18-inch alloy rims and run-flat tires that came on the car. The car is driven 90% on Los Angeles freeways, and the other 10% on well-paved local roads. Yes, you are right that out of pocket service bills for late model lux cars can be upsetting. But consider this: the absolute biggest cost of car ownership is depreciation. Buying a car at half of what it sold for three years ago puts you so far ahead of the game that even a $1500 brake job can be justified. (But since you are going to buy a CPO it won't need brakes!) I am not sure about that. I am currently leasing a 750Li and don't plan on buying. 7 series are very expensive to maintain after the warranty and free maintenance is over. 2006 CPO should be closer to $45k before I'd jump on it. 5 series leases are great these days since new model will be out next year.
