run flat vs. regular

i have a 2004 545i with sports package and run-flat tires and the tires are close to needing replacement. I have the Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST on now. have other BMW drivers switched from run-flats to regular tires and what were their experiences, better, worse? are the run-flats worth the huge price difference? i am really leaning toward regular UHP tires as i live ... I'm not conversant with 2004 values but '04 was the last year for the E39 which IMO is more of a real BMW than the gadget mobile E60. A lightly used one might be a good deal @ $16k. Read More...

Both cars are pretty reliable, but I'd give the edge to the 3er. For $18K you can possibly find a 2004 330i ZHP, which is the most fun you can have in a 3er short of an M3. Read More...

Thanks for the reply, in the end I didn't get the car as I had heard some horror stories regarding the cost of maintaining a BMW after the 50K warranty had expired!!! Those stories are mostly second and third hand hearsay passed on by pathetic envious fools. I've owned my 1995 3 Series since new and at 115,000 miles maintenance and repairs have averaged $33/month. ... Read More...

The Real OEM site can give you the part number(s) but you cannot order from them. Bavarian Autosport can special order them; their price is $2.95 each. Pelican Parts has them for $2.75. I'd focus on an '02 or 03 5 series if I were you. That model is incredibly durable. I had an '03 5 Series (an E39), and now the newer E60 (2004+) 5 Series. While I agree that the first model year of a redsigned car line can be troublesome, I find the E60 much improved over the older E39 series. BMW has a 7-year model life, therefore, the new 5-series should be introduced as a 2011 model, as the current one was introduced as 2004 model. In Germany they come one year earlier, thus 2010 would be correct over there, however, the US has been getting it one year later. Approx how much does a Inspection/Service 2 cost at a dealership? Swope BMW in Louisville, Ky only charged $382 to perform an Inspection II on my wife's 2004 X3 2.5- and that figure included a brake fluid flush as well as the cost of repairing a bit of curb rash on the RF wheel.
